Boots, Boots, Boots

Last night Brad and I were lying in bed just chit chatting about our day and things that are coming up.  Somehow we got on the topic of things we need to for both cars, furniture, a new gun for Brad (that would be his idea), etc.  I mentioned that I wanted a NICE pair of boots for the fall.  He declared that I had at least 12 pair in my closet.  Knowing that I only had 2 and a pair of Uggs that I only wear around the house, I challenged him to go look through my closet and find out for himself.  Do you know what he found?? Only three!  NOT twelve :)  He still swears there are others hidden in boxes around the house - haha.  Bless his heart, he can't stand to be wrong.

The two pair that I have are both super cheap and are all scratched up and worn out.  I'm on a mission to find a nicer pair that will hold up.  My only problem is I have a hard time finding boots that fit me just right b/c, according to the lady at Belk, I have "big calves" {after she told me that I may or may not have thrown the boot down and stormed off - that's not how you make a sale, lady!}

There aren't that many places that sell extended calf boots, so my options are kind of limited.  Here are a few that i'm considering...

One of these three WILL be in my closet this fall, now I just have to decide which ones! Decisions, decisions!

McWane Center Fun

Last weekend, my mom and I took Addi to the McWane Center.  To say she loved it would be a huge understatement.  I have been kind of hesitant to take her b/c I thought there wouldn't be that much stuff for her to do.  Boy, was I wrong!  Right now, they have a Dora and Diego exhibit full of activities for her age.  We don't watch Dora or Diego, so she didn't really care about them, but she loved everything else about it :)

Her favorite thing to do was slide.  Of course, we can go to the park and slide any time she wants for free, but she still preferred it over the other activities.  I didn't take my camera, but here are some pictures from my phone.  Please excuse the quality/blurriness :)

 Going down the slide

Playing with the huge light bright

Putting the stars in the "sky"

 Still playing w/the stars :)

She said one of the "pish" was "Mr. Booper" aka Mr. Grouper from the Bubble Guppies :)

 Loving the water

She loved those stars - haha

Random Happenings

This has seriously been the slowest ever.  Not much is going on, so the days just drag by.

The only fun thing that we have done this week is my mom and I took Addi to Chick-Fil-A last night for dinner and "I creaaaaam" (ice cream).  Then we stopped by the park to let Addi burn some more energy.  She especially loves the "purple slide" and going from swing to swing - for some reason she has to try them all.

Since school started this week, it takes me an extra 15 minutes to get to the interstate from my house.  School traffic + bus stops + a train = chaos on the road!  It already takes me an hour to get to work and the extra time has had me racing to get to there on time which means no swinging by Mickey D's to grab a large coffee.  Thank goodness I managed to leave a little earlier this morning to grab a Friday treat!  Now if only McDonalds could come up with a pumpkin spice latte, I would be good to go!

I have got to get caught up on laundry this weekend b/c it's getting ridiculous.  Who knows, I might even get crazy and decide to mop the floors - haha!

I'm also planning on a trip to the McWane Center at some point along with having Addi's pics made on Sunday!

I hope everyone has a stress free weekend!

Our weekend included...

A lingerie shower to celebrate a sweet friend's upcoming marriage

Late night "meal" at Outback that consisted of cheese fries, bloomin' onion and coconut
shrimp - healthy? Absolutely not.  Yummy?  Yep!

Shopping - Addi got tons of new clothes, a backpack and some dvd's - she racked up!

NO cleaning

NO cooking

and three hour naps.

As always, it was too short!

Goal Update

Wow, I just realized how horrible I am doing with my August goals...

I was right on track with the couch to 5k until I got sick earlier this week.  I feel like I have been run over by a truck.  I'm thinking it my just be allergies, but I might make a trip to the doctor tomorrow morning.  Until then, tonight I'm going to get some Chinese food (it always makes me feel better when I'm feeling crummy) and go home to rest.  Maybe I can catch up with my running next week!

I was doing great with putting a little into savings each week to reach my goal amount, until my debit card was compromised and someone in China decided to spend a big chunk of change on some comic book/gaming site.  Lovely.  Once that is all settled, I will be back to saving!  I never realized how much I use my debit card.  I have definitely spent less money the past week, since I can't just whip out my card.

We spent a little more at the grocery this week than I would have liked (the hubs tagged along), but I have only been once and i'm really trying to be creative and eat what's in our pantry.  That's huge!  Usually I go two or three times during a week and always buy more than that one item I ran in for.

Studying the book of Romans is the only thing that I'm actually on track with!

We haven't even touched Addi's room yet.  Maybe this weekend?

I still have two weeks until the end of the month, so hopefully I can get my hiney in gear and get some things accomplished!

Brad's Favorite Cookies...

I love recipes that are quick and easy.  This one is so easy that Brad requests it at least once a week.  I probably shouldn't make them as much as I do, but I will do almost anything to make him happy. :)  I have made these cookies with Splenda before and I thought they turned out just as good!

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

1 egg
1 cup of sugar (or sugar sub)
1 cup of peanut butter
16-18 small reese cups, unwrapped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Combine egg, sugar and peanut butter in a bowl.  Roll the cookies up in balls and place them in a mini muffin pan.  Bake 8 minutes or so. Remove from the oven and while they are still hot, place a Reeese cup in the middle and gently press down.  Try to let them cool for a few minutes (I know it's hard to wait) and then dig in!

Another option is to combine the first three ingredients and bake them like regular cookies.  We like them with Reese cups better - it puts them a little over the edge - yummy!

It was a beautiful weekend here in Alabama!  Temperatures were only in the upper 80's and low 90's and it made me long for Fall temperatures and boots even more!

Friday night we at dinner at a Japanese Restaurant and Addi was NOT a fan.  We have been to a hibachi grill before and she enjoyed it, but as soon as our chef started the grill, she started screaming.  After taking her out several times, we finally resorted to the iPad and Mickey Mouse.  She then sat peacefully in her chair watching "mouseeeee" :)  We then walked over to the pet store for her to see the animals.  She loved the kitties and kept saying "get up kitty!" b/c it was sleeping.  She also liked saying hey to the "pishies".

After taking a morning run (and completing week 1 of the couch to 5k program!),  we got ready to go to Gadsden to my little cousin's college graduation party.  Addi was super shy at first, but by the time we were ready to leave, she had warmed up and was giving everyone hugs.  She LOVES my cousin Bill.  He was the only one she would go to at first - so sweet!  Both of my aunts had brought her a present and she enjoyed carrying the bag around saying "my toys" all morning.

After we got back home, mom and I went furniture shopping while Addi napped w/daddy.  My mom is re-decorating her bedroom, so she was buying the furniture, while I enjoyed just looking and dreaming about what I wanted to buy.  I did pick out this bed....

I think it will go great in our bedroom and i'm seriously considering buying it in the next month or two.  We'll see.

Addi was raring to go when I got back home, so I decided to take her to the park.  She met a little friend there and they had a great time running around chasing each other!

Sunday, we got up early and went to church.  The rest of the afternoon was spent at a friend's baby tea and eating yummy food...

 Brad making us a pizza

Oatmeal Drop Cookies

While browsing Pinterest, I found a copy cat recipe of Panera Bread's Broccoli Cheddar soup.  I thought it tasted VERY similar, but not spot on.  I might have used a tad bit too much broccoli, but it was still super yummy!  I used skim milk instead of half and half and used reduced sodium chicken broth.  I used my emulsion blender, but still kept some chunks of broccoli b/c I like the different textures.  Now I just need to learn how to make a sourdough bread bowl and i'm all set!

Love this pic of Addi praying.  She closes her eyes so hard!

I hope everyone else had a great weekend!

Walk the Walk

I get really frustrated every time I see anyone put a bible verse on Facebook or talk about how involved in church they are and then I see them outside of the "FB world" drunk, swearing or talking to their spouse like they are a piece of trash, etc.   I don't know why this bothers me so much b/c It's really none of my business and I have NO place to judge anyone b/c I am just as much a sinner as they are, but knowing this bothers me has taught me a lot about the way I should live my life.

I have realized that people watch everything you say and do. How can I share the gospel and be taken seriously if I'm saying one thing and doing another? No wonder so many people throw out the word hypocrite when they think of Christians.  It's important for us to not only talk the talk, but actually walk the walk.

We might be able to fool those around us that we are Christians, but we can't fool God. I feel like most of the time we live like God is far away in heaven and he occasionally peeks down to check on us.  Our sermon this past Sunday was about God being omnipresent.  He's everywhere and knows everything we say/do and there is no hiding from Him.  Ouch.  I don't know about y'all, but there's a lot of stuff I say or do that I definitely would NOT be doing if He was physically next to me.  Well, He is with me everywhere I go through the Holy Spirit and I don't know about y'all, but I need to start living like it!

"Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me..."
Psalm 139:7-10

Let's Catch Up...

I have completed the first two days of the couch to 5k program.  Even though I kind of felt like I was going to die, I still pushed through.  It has made me realize how out of shape I really am, but that makes me want to stick with it even more!

Does anyone else get self-conscious about running in front of people?  I ran in my neighborhood and there were several people out playing with their kids or working in the yard and I kept worrying that those people were thinking "look at that poor girl try to run" haha.  I'm hoping they weren't even paying me any attention!

Even though it has only been a few days, I already feel better!  Hopefully, I can keep it up!

Addi has been in rare form these past two weeks.  She was even sent to the office at school for hitting another kid and then rolling her eyes at her teacher.  Seriously, they start rolling their eyes at age two?  I'm in trouble with this one!

She has a new love for the Bubble Guppies.  I guess The Fresh Beat Band is so two months ago, b/c she could care less about them now.  It's all about the Guppies!  Every night before bedtime we go in our bedroom and lay down to watch an episode.  She also as to have her tummy rubbed while watching it to help her get sleepy. She is ROTTEN!  But, i'm just trying to savor every moment with her b/c I know she won't be this age forever.  :(

Brad is still trying to get over a sprained ankle (he stepped off a curb and rolled it).  It's been over two weeks and he can barely walk and it keeps getting worse.  He's already been to the doctor twice and they both said it is just a really bad sprain, but I Googled his symptoms and I think he has some nerve damage.  I hate seeing him in pain like that, especially when there's nothing I can do to help him.  I'm hoping he will call the doctor again today and he can give him something to ease his pain.  Please say a prayer or two for him to feel better! :)

Our weekend is jam packed with a graduation party, baby tea and furniture shopping.  Sadly, the furniture shopping is for my mom and not me!  I hope everyone has a great weekend!

August Goals

One thing I LOVE about my Erin Condren planner is that each week it has a spot for you to write your goals/to-do's.  I tried to write down my goals when I attempted to do the 101 in 1001 in January last year (even though I only came up with 49).  To be honest, I haven't looked at that list much since then.  I know I have completed some of them (maybe I will update it soon), but until then I thought it would be a good idea for me to come up with monthly goals.  I know it's already the 5th day of the month, but it's better late than never, right?  I'm going to attempt to blog about my progress and come up with new goals each month.  We'll see how long I can keep this up :)

August Goals:

1.  Run one mile without stopping - i'm pretty sure I have never run an entire mile without stopping or if I have it's been a LONG time ago.  I have attempted to complete the Couch to 5k program in the past, but I can never get past the first week - haha.  I'm tired of being out of shape.  I STILL haven't lost all of the weight I gained from being pregnant with Addi and I'm ready to get my butt in gear.  {I started walking/running tonight - hopefully I can keep it up!}

2.  Put $1,000 in savings AND keep it there.  The AND is the kicker.  We only keep a certain amount of money in our checking account and I transfer the rest to savings each month.  I'm bad about transferring the money and turn around and take a little bit out to spend. I told y'all I have an addiction to buying little girl's clothing!  I have sold a lot of Addi's clothes from last year, so that has given me some extra moolah to buy her fall clothes.

3.  Only go to the grocery store for the necessities and try to eat out of the fridge/pantry.  I love trying new recipes and the problem with that is, I buy certain ingredients that I only use for that one particular recipe and then it remains in the pantry until it goes bad and I have to throw it out.  I'm going to try to go to the store only for bread, eggs, milk, etc. once a week.

4.  Read and meditate through the book of Romans.  I have no particular reason for choosing Romans, I just thought it was a good starting point.  I'm not a morning person, but I do always seem to have a better start to my day when I get up extra early and have a quiet time with the Lord.

5.  Set up Addi's big girl room.  I realize it's time for us to put away the crib and set up her toddler bed, but she has never tried to climb out of her crib, so we have just let her stay in it.  She always just lays right down and goes to sleep at night time (such a blessing!).  I'm nervous that having a big girl bed will mess up her good sleeping habits and make her want to constantly come to our bed.  Hopefully, she will have a smooth transition!

I figured 5 goals for this month is a good starting point.  Here's to making things happen!

Roll Tide

Well, football season is just around the corner and here in Alabama that's a BIG deal.  Instead of the actual games, i'm more interested in the food, fellowship and dressing Addi up in cute Bama gear :)  I've already started her collection for this fall...

Roll Tide, y'all!

Potty Break

A little over a month ago, I mentioned that Addi had an interest in the potty.  She doesn't use the potty at home, but she loves sitting on it at school.  I talked to her teacher Monday and we decided to try and start potty training her at school since she seems so interested.  Day one I sent several pairs of panties and changes of clothes.  She tee-tee'd in the potty twice and had two accidents.  Day two, she just had several accidents.  I quickly decided that she's just not ready yet AND i'm ok with that (I think).  We will go right back to wearing pull-ups and sitting on the potty at school when she wants to.  She will learn.  A lot of people I have talked to with children older than her said that they will do it in their own time when they are ready.

Even though Dr. L says she's doing great considering everything that happened at birth, he still doesn't think I should throw too many new things at her at once.  Since it has taken her a while to really start talking, I don't need to throw potty training into the mix until she gets her speech down pat.  Even though that makes perfect sense to me, I still thought she would have caught on by now.  He also assured me that there are a lot of kids who don't become interested in the potty until age 3.

So, until she is ready, we will be taking a break from the potty!

Vegas - Day Four

You can catch up and read about our first three days here:

We didn't have to be at the airport until late Sunday afternoon, so we were able to enjoy that morning and afternoon exploring a little bit more.  We got ready that morning and headed towards the "old downtown" part of Vegas.  We mainly spent our time eating breakfast and playing a few games at The Golden Nugget.  It was neat to see during the day, but the next time we visit I want to make sure to go at night to see the canopy of lights.  Here are a few pictures from that morning...

We made our way back to the strip and stopped for a snack at Serendipity 3 outside of Ceasars Palace.  I got the frozen hot chocolate and it was sooooo good!  Lindsey and Wes shared nachos and those looked pretty dang good too!

Before we knew it, our trip was coming to an end and we had to catch a shuttle back to the airport.

It was such a fun trip and i'm so glad we went!  I had several people tell me that we wouldn't get to see everything we wanted to and they were definitely right.  There is SO much to see and do that it's impossible to do everything.  I can't wait to go back and finish where we left off!

Here are some tips to remember if you are planning on vacationing in Las Vegas any time soon:

1. Bring comfortable shoes.  Flip flops won't do, your feet will be killing you.  You walk everywhere.  I kind of wish I had worn a pedometer to keep up with how many miles we walked - I'm sure it was insane!  I might have to do some training before our next trip b/c i'm used to sitting at a desk all day not walking a marathon haha!

2. If your vacation package offers a "free" tour of the Hoover Dam, check into it a little more before you commit.  We purchased a vacation package through Southwest and it included one of these free tours.  Well, it IS free, but it's also a ploy to get you to spend time at some casino resort.  I called and asked the itinerary for the tour and the lady told me that 20 minutes would be spent at the Hoover Dam and 6 HOURS would be spent at a casino.  Needless to say, we cancelled.  Brad and I definitely want to rent a car and drive to the Hoover Dam next go round.

3. If you are hoping to stay within a budget try to plan as much as you can ahead of time.  Look at menus online of places you might want to eat, etc.  We didn't really go with a budget in mind and it's VERY easy spend a lot of money b/c everything is kind of expensive.

4. I think buying monorail passes is worth it.  I think a pass for two for 24 hours is $24 or a three day pass is $28/each.  Trust me, your feet will thank you!  Also, try to stay at a hotel with a monorail stop.  Thank goodness ours did and we just had to walk out the back of the hotel and there it was.

5. Bring sunscreen.  If you burn easily, like myself, you will be glad you brought some!

I hope y'all enjoyed reading a little bit about our vacation.  My next big vacay is to New York this November.  I have been twice before, but I'm going with my mom and she has never been, so I'm looking forward to it!  Also, if you have any tips or must see places/things to do while in NYC, shoot me an e-mail and let me know!
