It's Potty Time...

In my post yesterday I mentioned that Addi has been interested in the potty at school.  Well, Brad went to pick her up yesterday afternoon and they told him she tee-tee'd in the potty!!!  I'm so proud - haha!  Her teacher told me she saw the other kids doing it and started saying "I wanna tee tee".  I'm interested to hear if she did anything today.  Last night, I asked her if she wanted to use the potty like a big girl and she just said "no, no".  I guess it's no fun at home and without all of your friends there to watch! haha!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE getting text messages that include pictures of her during the day.  It makes my heart happy!  Here is a picture I received today...

Sweet baby all tuckered out

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Weekend Re-cap

We had another jam packed weekend.  Every Monday, when I get back to work, I begin longing for the weekend again.  We then end up cramming everything possible that we need/want to do all in two days.  Sunday nights i'm ALWAYS exhausted and don't want the work week to begin.  We need a relaxing weekend SOON!

Saturday morning, Addi was invited to a birthday party for one of her friends at school.  We decided to meet up w/Aunt Sadie at the park before we headed to the party.  Aunt Sadie quickly turned into Aunt "Daisy".  Addi had a ball playing w/her - running from the swings to the slides.  We left after only 30 minutes because it was HOT!  They have a shaded toddler area, but we don't ever stay contained to that one area - we love to run :)

We then went to the birthday party and Addi had so much fun playing w/her friend, eating hot dogs, cake and ice cream!  I took my camera, but totally forgot to take some pics.

That night we went to a local Japanese Steakhouse.  It was Addi's first time seeing the chef cook on the hibachi grill and I was anxious to see if she would like it or be scared.  She wasn't crazy about the huge flame at the beginning, but she watched him VERY closely the entire time.  She also loves her some fried rice - yummm!

Sunday, was church, lunch at home, and nap time.  When she woke up, we put on our bathing suits and went to a friends house to go swimming.  Addi loved playing w/Leah, Crystal and her little girl, Lydia.  She loved just hanging out on the stairs of the pool, but eventually became a little more brave and had fun jumping to Aunt Leah. (Brad and I are both only children, so all of our friends are Addi's "Aunts" and "Uncles" in case you are wondering! haha).  After pool-time, we went inside to the A/C and fixed sandwiches and the girls watched tv, or "pb" as Addi would call it.

All in all it was a great weekend and I'm still worn out!

In other news, when dropping off Addi this morning, her teacher told me that she is VERY interested in the potty.  Their new classrooms each have their own restroom attached, so she has been seeing some of her friends potty and apparently, she wants in on the action!  I'm going to start packing pull-ups so she can give it a try.  I have tried getting her to sit on her potty at home, but she's just not interested and i'm not pushing it right now.  Hopefully, she will just learn from her little friends :)

Busy Week

This has been another busy week for the Alston household!  VBS at church started Monday night and I volunteered to help out with Addi's age group.  She had so much fun playing with all of her little friends.  She especially loved worship time and learning new songs/motions.

Playing with sidewalk chalk at VBS

Monday morning, Brad's grandfather passed away, so Tuesday and Wednesday were spent traveling to and from the funeral home and cemetery (about 1 1/2 hours away).  Addi was really good - she loves riding in the car b/c she can watch her movies.  She LOVES singing along w/the Cedarmont Kids, so I make sure to have several dvd's handy for our long car rides - along with her blanket, teddy and baby.  She kept saying "My teddy, My baby, My blanket" over and over.  Everything is MINE MINE MINE these days!

Addi has been congested and coughing a little bit the past couple of days, so since I was already off yesterday, I decided to take her to the doctor to get it checked out.  She has a sinus infection.  I always dread taking her to the doctor by myself b/c she turns into a different child it seems (whining, crying, etc).  To my surprise she was REALLY good during our visit!  The one thing I love about our doctor is that you hardly ever have to wait more than 10 minutes to be called back and seen.  She took her baby doll with her and let Dr. L listen to its chest to make sure she wasn't sick as well :)  She even earned a sticker for her good behavior!  I hope the antibiotics kick in and she starts to feel better soon.

Sleeping in mommy and daddy's bed while we got ready - bless her heart!

Father's Day Weekend

This weekend was definitely better than the week I had.  For starters, I was able to spend all weekend hanging out with my favorite 2 year old.  Saturday morning we worked on our ABC's.  I have found this great blog that gives great ideas and free printables for teaching your child their ABC's.  This is great for me b/c I seriously lack in the creativity department and I don't think like a teacher does (which is why I'm an accountant and not a teacher!).  Check out her blog for more info.

Addi can say all of her ABC's, but now we are focusing on one letter at a time.  Last week we worked on letter "A" and this week we are on letter "B".  I also made a binder to keep all of her activities in, so she can go back and look at everything she did.  Here are a few pictures of her working hard...

Coloring the letter "A"

Making an "apple" - found here (another great resource)

Coloring the letter "B" and playing with stickers of things that start w/the letter "B"

After our "B" lesson, we changed clothes and headed to the park...

Loves to "side"

Saying "Cheeee"

It was REALLY hot, so we grabbed a gourmet lunch of Mickey D's and headed to my mom's house for a while.  After we got home, I put her down for a nap with Brad and went to have some time to myself.  I decided to go and get one of these...

I wish I could afford getting a pedicure every week, b/c I totally would!  I can't wait until Addi is old enough to tag along and get one herself.  I remember when I was little going w/my dad to get his hair cut and the place he went had a manicurist there and he would always pay for me to have my nails painted.  :)

Speaking of my dad, this is my second Father's Day with out him.  I miss him a lot.  There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him or laugh about something he used to say or do (which is a lot!).

Today, we enjoyed an awesome church service and then mom and I went to eat while Brad and Addi went to have lunch w/his parents.  Brad is such an amazing father to Addi - he loves her more than anything.  She also has him wrapped around her little finger!

Those two are currently snuggled up in bed while i'm enjoying some more alone time.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Week In Review

I haven't been in a blogging mood, but I thought I would write a few bullet points of our happenings this week:

I have been nothing but in a bad mood. All. Week. Long.

Addi projectile vomited all over our love seat (and her daddy)  last night - lovely.  She went right back to playing like nothing ever happened.

Brad Someone broke the screen on Brad's brand new iPad - and both replacement screens we bought - $600 down the drain.

One of my best friend's mom's was diagnosed with ovarian cancer this week - please pray for healing and strength.

I found out this morning that Addi will be moving up a class at school - this makes me sad!

She now has to wear her owl backpack her Aunt Sadie bought her into school AND we have to stop and look at the fountain outside every morning.  They have just finished renovating the educational building at her daycare and she's going to be so disappointed when we don't pass the fountain every day.

I took off half a day yesterday and took a 3 1/2 hour nap AND was able to sleep a full 7 hours last night - I must have been exhausted (maybe this is why I've been in a bad mood?)

I have hit up McDonald's every day this week for a non-fat Caramel Mocha - at least it was non-fat, right?

I just realized how depressing my week was - haha.  Hopefully, I will have something fun to write about this weekend!

I hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend!

Growing Up Too Fast

I can't believe this was my Addi girl just one year ago...

It's amazing how much she has changed in a year...

Time is passing by too quickly!

Little Tummies and Peach Smoothies

Addi has been super ill lately.  At first I thought it was the terrible two's making their way into our household, but I quickly realized she just didn't feel good.  They sent a note home from school yesterday that she just cried a lot - which is not like her at all.  After three times of trying to put her to bed, she ended up laying down w/Brad in our bed until she fell asleep.  I decided to call the doctor this morning to see what we could do.  She's had some "tummy" issues for the past few months and that's what was causing her discomfort.  After hearing back from the nurse and getting some instructions on what to do - we headed to school and work.  She ran right in her classroom w/out even telling me bye...i'm guessing she feels better already!

Since I had a little extra time this morning and a lot of extra peaches, I decided to whip up a peach smoothie for breakfast.  It was too good not to share.  Here is what I did:

Combine the following in a blender and enjoy!

2 fresh peaches, peeled and diced
1 container of peach Greek yogurt
1/4 cup of milk
packet of splenda

*Also, please be in prayer for this sweet family who just found out their 6 year old daughter's cancer just came back and there's not anything left to do.  My heart breaks for them.

Organize Me

Last Friday, I made one of the best decisions I have made in a long time - I paid someone to clean my house.  I'm thinking i'm crazy for not doing it before now!  It was wonderful coming home to a clean house Friday afternoon and not having to worry about it over the weekend.  I don't have a "dirty" house, it's just cluttered and we have WAY too much stuff.  I just can't get a handle on all of it for some reason.  I asked my friend who cleaned it if she minded helping me organize some things.  She started out by organizing my kitchen cabinets.  As soon as I go through our closets I will definitely need help in that area as well!

It's no secret that I'm not very organized.  I wish I was, but i'm not.  I love to make lists.  That's really the extent of it - I make tons of extremely detailed "to-do" lists and I hardly ever complete anything on them.  I'm really trying to make an effort to get rid of things we don't need and haven't used in a year.  This is harder for Brad than it is me!  Toys and clothes pretty much take over our house!  It's amazing how many clothes I have, but then again I never have anything to wear - haha.

I'm so proud of myself because my house is still clean from Friday!  I have tried really hard to pick everything up after Addi goes to bed and keep the kitchen clean and laundry in its place.  It's amazing how much better I feel and I can spend my time concentrating on other things like spending time w/Brad and Addi.  After working all day, cooking dinner, bathing Addi and getting her ready for bed, I don't really feel like sweeping and mopping my house.

I just bought Addi a toddler bed and I can't wait to put it up!  I'm on a mission for a tall skinny bookcase to lay on its side so I can make this storage area that I found on Pinterest.  Hopefully, this will help me keep her toys put away.

Do y'all have any tips to staying organized?

Saturday Fun At The Park

Addi LOVES going to the park.  As soon as we pull into the parking lot she starts yelling "SLIDE!".  She runs back and forth from the slide to the swing.  We decided to spend our morning there today.  Here are a few pictures from our trip...

Sliding

Watching all of the other children - she loves to stare! haha!

Having fun w/daddy!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

SUYL - Living Rooms

I decided to join along with Kelly's Korner and do her Home Tour series.  This week we are showing off our living rooms.  Click here to see my living room from the last time I participated in her Home Tour.  Here is my living room now...

Not much has changed :)  My mantle needs A LOT of work.  I used to have two candlesticks up there, but I was cleaning one day and Addi knocked one of them over and it broke.  Maybe the mantle will be my next project!

Here is the view from the other side.  I did change up the furniture layout of the room.  I am hoping for some new furniture in the near future.  I'm thinking this room needs some sort of sectional, but the hubby disagrees (he's not a sectional fan for some reason).

I also bought new side tables from Harmony Landing.  I really like them compared to the old ones - they are a little more my style.  There's a glare on the picture, but that is Addi's "school" picture from this year - isn't it precious?  I'm thinking it's time for new lamps as well!

My mom gave this little table and chairs to Addi for Christmas.  She loves to sit here and eat her snacks and watch tv.

Here is the view from the kitchen doorway into the living room.  Addi has a little bookcase with all of her books/coloring books/crayons and puzzles on it.  We are going to be giving her a "big girl" room makeover very soon and will probably move the bookcase in her room.

I am by no means an interior designer, but it's perfect for us :)  Thank you for stopping by to look at our home!
