New Hobby

Brad use to play golf a good bit and he has recently gotten back into it.  He's been going pretty much every weekend for the past few weeks to play.  I had mentioned that I might be interested in learning - the only type of golf I know right now is putt-putt.  I really think I would enjoy it and it would give us something we could do together!  Brad is going to sign me up for lessons soon!

We all got new golf clubs this past week.  Addi LOVES hers.  She lines the balls up and counts to three and then "hits" them.  She chases after each ball saying "momma my ball".  Maybe we have a future golf pro on our hands!

Addi's First Concert

My child LOVES The Fresh Beat Band or “beat beats” as she calls them.  She adores anything musical and loves to dance and clap along.  It’s a cute show, so I don’t mind watching it with her.  I saw where they were coming to Birmingham and I just knew we had to take her to see them.  I  Brad thought tickets were a little too pricey for a two year old – especially since she’s never been to anything like that before and she might not like it.  So, I waited until the day of the concert and just looked on Craigslist for some tickets.  I figured there would be someone who purchased tickets that wouldn’t be able to go and would want to sell their tickets for cheap.  I snagged three tickets for only $60 and we had great seats!!  The show was sold out and I would have paid AT LEAST $150 for these tickets if I would have bought them sooner – I will be waiting until the day of to buy tickets to anything from now on!

Brad was out of town, so my mom, Addi and I loaded up and headed down town for the concert.  First mistake – we got there 30 minutes before show time.  This would normally be fine, but for a two year old it wasn’t a smart decision.  She saw the stage and kept saying “beat beats”, but didn’t really understand the whole sit down and wait for them to come out thing!  Instead, she wanted to walk around everywhere and even suckered me into buying a $10 glow stick.  Next time, we will be arriving promptly when the show is supposed to start!

Since this was a last minute thing, I didn't bring my camera...I had to settle for cell phone pics.

As soon as the lights went out and everyone starting clapping and cheering, it scared her and she started to cry.  They came on stage and a huge smile came on her face and she starting clapping!  The first half of the concert she was just staring at them trying to figure out what was going on, but the second half she started waving her glow stick around, clapping and jumping up and down.

Overall, it was a cute concert and they are really talented – mom and I even enjoyed it!  Addi’s first concert was a success!!

You can't really tell, but here she is in her "beat beat" shirt on the way to school this morning!

Attitude Adjustment

Lately, I have had a horrible attitude about life.  I have been asking myself what is the purpose of what I’m doing with my life?  Am I doing God’s will? Why do I feel like what I’m doing is worthless?  I have even been having thoughts go through my head about God not caring about what I want to do with my life. Why has He not answered my prayers about what I want? How dare He not give me the resources and the ability to do the things I want to do?

Aside from this blog, I have a journal that I write more personal things in.  You know, things I don’t want to share with all 10 of you who actually read my blog!   I was reading a past entry in my journal and noticed a recurring theme.  The words “I” and “me” were written a lot.  I have become so selfish about what I want in life that I have completely underestimated God.  I know from the bottom of my heart that God has a plan for my life - one that will fulfill HIS purpose, not mine.  The devil is trying to cloud my mind with other thoughts and unfortunately, I’ve let him.

There is a very special lady who I work with and she knows my situation.  She basically told me that I need to stop worrying about Mary Beth and what she wants and instead focus on what and where God has me right now.  If He can’t trust me with the “little” things, then how can He trust me with something bigger and better? THAT, my friends, is exactly what I needed to hear.  I’m so thankful to have someone in my life to come out and tell me the hard stuff that I really don’t want to hear.  It’s hard enough for me to notice how selfish I have been, but having someone else notice it AND point it out to you is even harder!

Today is a new day - a day in which I will live my life for Him no matter what he has called me to do AND I will succeed.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

Racing Experience

Brad’s birthday was last month and since he is such a big NASCAR fan, I decided to surprise him with being able to participate in a driving experience where he could drive a real race car.  We decided to make it a small getaway for the two of us, so Friday night we loaded up and drove to Atlanta.  He didn’t have to be at the speedway until that Saturday afternoon, so in the mean time we just explored and were able to spend some quality time together (much needed!).
We arrived at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and got checked in and Brad suited up.  We had to get there an hour early, so we were able to sit and watch the group before his drive.  I bet there were probably 150 people driving that day which is a lot more than I expected.  A girl in the group before his lost control and rammed into the wall twice.  This definitely didn’t ease my nerves!!  Before getting in the car, all drivers have to take an hour safety course that explains the rules and what they should expect.  I told Brad that he better listen to them better than he listens to me – haha!

His beeper went off right after the class, so it was his turn!  He got his earphones and helmet on and he was good to go!  When I bought the gift certificate for him, I thought there would be someone in the car with him kind of directing him what to do….well, I was wrong.  He was driving by himself, but communicating with someone who was on the field watching.  I had no reason to be nervous b/c he did a great job!  He reached 150 mph and was so excited – he said it was one of the most awesome things he’s ever experienced.  I’m so glad!  I wanted to do the ride along with an experienced driver, but I had on a dress w/sandals and that probably wouldn’t have been best riding attire

We had a great time and I’m so glad I was able to be there to see his face when he got out of that racecar – priceless!

Easter Weekend 2012

Better late than never I guess, but I thought I would go ahead and FINALLY write about our Easter weekend.

The Saturday before Easter Addi and I started parent/child swimming lessons.  She wasn't really having it...all she wanted to do was go up and down the stairs of the pool.  She wouldn't have anything to do with the teachers either.  I wanted her to get used to being in the water before we go to the beach in May.  We had to skip yesterday's lesson b/c Brad and I were out of town, but we will be going back next weekend and see if she has changed her mind about the water then :)

Sunday morning we went to church and then to my mom's house for lunch (it was also her b'day).  My cousin and her precious family were there.  Addi still doesn't know what to think about Luke.  At one point during lunch she was in the den watching "beat beats" and we heard her in there talking.  I went in there and she was pointing to the pictures on the table and saying everyone's name.  Mom has a picture of her and dad on the table and Addi was pointing at it saying "Nana and Pop" - I think that was a PERFECT b'day gift for my mom!

Here are some pictures from our Easter weekend...

Deep and Wide

I’m a little behind on posting about our Easter weekend, but life has just gotten in the way.  Maybe I will have that post up tonight – we’ll see!
Last night, before bedtime, Addi was sitting w/Brad and she starting saying “Dee Wide, Dee Wide” over and over and doing some type of hand motions.  I had no clue what she was saying, but I just assumed it was something she learned at school. (She talks a lot, but we still have a hard time making out what she’s saying)  Brad said “Is she saying deep and wide??”  That’s exactly what she was saying! I started singing the song “Deep and Wide” and she grinned really big and continued to do her hand motions.  I kept on singing and she looked at me and said “No!” – hahaha  I guess I’m not the greatest singer in the world J  Her singing was the most precious thing ever!

Spring Time

Brad was out of town most of last week, so we spent this weekend just hanging out as a family.  Most of our time was spent playing/working outside.  I'm pretty sure we have done our share of keeping Home Depot and Lowes in business over the past few weeks!  Brad has a new "love" of working in the yard.  I'll be honest when I say that he has done all of the work.  I've helped a little here and there, but my time has been spent watching Addi and making sure she doesn't take off up the street.  Unfortunately, we currently don't have a fenced in backyard, so I really have to keep my eye on her!  Today, I kept her busy playing with her water table...

I'm not exactly sure what all veggies he has planted this year, but I think it is a lot.  When we bought our house, there was already a pergola and a tiny fish pond behind it.  We He dug up the fish pond b/c all it was doing was attracting mosquitoes and other pesky insects.  We have tried to "pretty up" the pergola.  Here is what we have done so far...
We bought some cushions and pillows for our swing and now all we need is a fire pit, rug and two chairs and we are finished w/the pergola!  We have a table, chairs and umbrella on our deck w/the grill, but we are currently looking for something a bit nicer.  I will take a pic of our deck once we are finished w/it. After all this work we have been doing in the back yard, we need to invite all of our friends over for a bbq.  We also bought a corn hole and ladder ball game today - we are ready for summer!

I'm hoping this weather stays just like it was today, b/c it was absolutely perfect!  I hope everyone else had a great weekend!
