A New Year and A New Me

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m ready for the new year! Remember the list I made last year of things I would like to accomplish in 1,001 days? Yeah, well, I’m scrapping that list and starting over. I need a new start. I need a new me. I’m tired of trying to do things on my own – I need to put all my trust in God and allow Him to lead me.

This past year was full of struggles. One of the main issues I face is where do I belong, what am I supposed to be doing w/my life (other than being a mommy and wife - which I LOVE every second of)? I have a great job and at times I really enjoy it, but sometimes I sit and think that I’m wasting away 40 hours of my life each week sitting at a desk. Is this really where God wants me? What is my purpose here? I’m always praying for God to lead me somewhere where I can do His will for my life…somewhere I can make a difference. I’ve learned that THIS is where God has led me and where he wants me right now. Even though at times I may hate it, He has me here for a reason and I need to work as hard as I can to do a good job. I need to live my life in a way that people that I work with know that Christ is my main focus. I need to be an example. One of my prayers for the upcoming year is that no matter where God leads me, I will work my hardest and try to be an example to those who are around me that I live my life for Him. I want people to know how God has changed my life and how He can change theirs.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32:8

Here are a few other things that I would like to accomplish in the new year:
*Lose weight, workout daily and just become healthier in general
*Get organized
*Blog more frequently
*Save cash for a new car
*Paint our bedroom (I’m doing this Monday - pictures to follow!)
*Go on a vacation
*Put 6 months of living expenses into savings
*Take more pictures/videos
*Buy new furniture (bedroom, den and dining room)

Christmas 2011

This Christmas was definitely different than year’s past. Last year, my dad was in the ICU, so we celebrated Christmas in the lobby of UAB. We ended up having our family get together in February once he was out of the hospital and feeling better. I’m SO glad we didn’t have to go to the hospital this Christmas. We do miss him VERY much, but he was able to celebrate our Savior’s birth with Him! How awesome!

Christmas Eve Eve – we had my birthday dinner at my mom’s house. My grandmother would always fix me whatever I wanted for my birthday and I would always choose – chicken fingers, mashed potatoes and green beans. So, that is what my momma made me! It was SO good! My birthday cake was an ice cream cake from Cold Stone. Mom bought me a sewing machine for my birthday and I can’t wait to use it! I just need her to teach me first :)

Christmas Eve – Brad grilled ribs for my mom’s side of the families Christmas/birthday lunch. My sweet, beautiful cousin and her family came and we enjoyed spending time w/them and celebrating Luke’s first Christmas. I’m not sure Addi knew what to think about another baby being there! After they left, my mom let Addi open her Christmas presents from her. She got a cute little table and chairs, a baby doll, Elmo DVD, clothes and her first dollhouse. She LOVED her table in chairs…I got on to her for standing in the chair. I told her if she did it one more time then I would put her in time out. Well, she did it again and then walked over to the wall and put herself in time out – haha! We couldn’t help but get tickled at her.

Christmas Day – mom spent the night w/us Christmas Eve and was able to see Addi open her presents from Santa (Side note – when did parent’s stop letting their kids believe in Santa?? I don’t think he should be the main focus at all and it’s our job as parent’s to teach our children the real meaning of Christmas, but Santa just adds a little more fun to all of the excitement of the season. I could go on and on about this, but I will stop my ranting :)) We bought her a blow up thing w/balls in it and she LOVES it. That’s the first toy she ran to. She also loves going in and out of her playhouse. Those were her two favorite toys. We also got her a Let’s Rock Elmo (I think I had more fun w/it than she did) and a few other things. After opening presents and eating a yummy breakfast Brad cooked, we went to church. It was a great service and I’m so glad we went! After church, we went to Brad’s parent’s house to open presents. Addi was exhausted and not feeling well, so she needed lunch and a nap before she would have anything to do w/gifts.

Monday, we were all off work and mom and I went and did a little after Christmas shopping and had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory (one of our favs!) We found some great deals and then headed home to rest and prepare for the work week!

I’m now back at work wishing I was at home w/my baby girl! At least we have another 3 day weekend this week.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Santa Baby

We took Addi to see Santa yesterday after church and she obviously didn't care for him too much.  Maybe she will have a better experience next year :)

I think it's safe to say I have an obsession with Christmas themed clothing...

Little girls are just so much fun to dress up and I have a hard time resisting all of the cute clothes!

21 Months And An Update

I just haven't been in the mood to do anything lately, much less blog.  But I thought it was time for a MUCH needed update!

Addi turned 21 months old on the 4th.  I guess I better start thinking about her 2nd birthday.  That makes me so sad! She's growing WAY too fast and I just want time to slow down.  Her are a few things about my baby girl:

*She loves the word "purple" - it's one of the few words that she says very clearly and will randomly shout it out - haha!
*She loves to ride in the car and watch "Elwo" and if you mention watching "Elwo" she comes running.
*"Me" and "mine" are also popular words these days
* She's still carrying around a plastic pumpkin from Halloween and putting toys in it and then saying "out" so I will dump them out and she can put them back in again - this little activity keeps her busy for a while ha!
*She's become a pickier eater and LOVES to dip her food in anything - ketchup, honey mustard, ranch, whatever!  We went to Chili's the other night and we caught her dipping her fingers in the ranch and licking them - yuck!
*I think we won't be going back out to eat w/her anytime soon....she's so busy and never wants to sit still in a high chair. :)

In other news...Christmas is going to be really hard this year. In fact it's already been a lot harder than I thought it would be.  We all miss my dad so much and he loved the holidays.  As sad as this sounds, I kind of just want to skip over Christmas, that way I don't have to deal w/the sadness it will bring.  HOWEVER, i'm trying to get in the Christmas spirit.  Addi will have so much fun opening gifts.  She already loves the lights and trees.  I just need to focus on the true meaning of Christmas and just having fun w/Addi and family.

I found the following idea on Pinterest earlier this week.  It's a felt tree that Addi can decorate herself! I started on it after she went to bed and it only took me about an hour to make.  All you need is felt and a hot glue gun.  I KNOW she's going to have a blast putting the ornaments on herself.  The only thing you have to glue on are the presents at the bottom and any other decorations that you want on the ornaments.  I was happy w/how it turned out...
Here's our tree this year and an ornament Addi made at daycare...I love anything that includes her handprints!

We have a lot on our to-do list over the next few weeks that includes a trip to see Santa, Christmas shopping (I haven't really started yet), and Christmas parties.  Maybe I will find time out of my busy schedule to blog more than once a month :)
