Do You Pin?

For the past couple of months I have heard about people signing up on Pinterest.  I resisted the urge to join for a while, but today I gave in.  I can already tell I'm going to be obsessed!  You can follow me here.

Me and My Baby

The past couple of times I have picked Addi up from daycare, she has been carrying around a baby doll in each hand.  At home, she usually has either a baby doll or a purse.  She has even started saying "doll".  I'm happy she's a girly girl!

She loves to put her dolls next to her in her chair.

Father's Day

I haven't really been in the mood to blog lately. I need to step it up!

First of all, I want to say that Brad is the most amazing father ever.  He loves Addi so much and I just love watching them together.  It makes my heart smile!
Going to tell the waiting room full of family and friends at the hospital that Addi had arrived. (The nurse made him hurry up and go tell them because they were driving the nurses crazy asking if she was here or not lol)

Here is a picture of Brad's Father's Day gifts from Addi.  She made several gifts at church and daycare and then we bought him a shirt, shorts and Alabama camo tumbler.  I'm loving she's at the age where she can make (with some assistance :) handmade gifts - I'm sure there will be much more to come!
Yesterday was a bittersweet day.  It was the first Father's Day since my dad passed away.  Every time I started to get sad I would think about him celebrating with his Heavenly Father!  How awesome is that??

NIghty Night and Decisions

For the past 6 months or so, bed time has been a struggle with Addi.  We had to wait until she was asleep and then put her in her bed.  We tried letting her scream it out, but neither one of us had the patience for that and we kept giving in.  About 4 nights ago, she was so fussy.  It was about 9:00 and she just wasn't falling asleep.  I decided to go put her in her bed and just pray for a miracle. worked! She went right to sleep without crying or anything!  Brad and I looked at each other in shock.  She's been sick this week, so I just thought she didn't feel good and that's why she was going to bed so well.  Since then, every night around 8:00 I have been putting her to bed while she was awake and she hasn't made a noise and has gone right to sleep.  I have NO clue why, but I'm so thankful!!!

We went to Best Buy last night and I've picked out two cameras.  I'm having a tough time trying to choose which one.

I'm leaning towards the Nikon, but I like them both.  I will have to go back to the store and play with them some more before making my decision!

On The Mend and Cameras

Today was a much better day at the Alston house!  Addi seems to be feeling back to normal.  She has played all day and was in to everything.  I thought I would take advantage of my day off with her by cleaning the house, but it's so hard to even load the dishwasher when she is there taking out everything I put in! haha!  I was finally able to mop the floors after the crumb monster went to bed.

I have mentioned several times that I broke my camera.  It really upset me when I broke it (yes, it was my fault) because it was a nice camera and I didn't really have an extra $800 to spend on a new one.  There is a strong possibility that I will be getting a replacement camera in the next month.  I'm shopping around trying to find what I want. I'm overwhelmed with choices!  I'm leaning towards a Nikon, but I keep changing my mind.  Do any of you have any suggestions on what to get?  I would like a DSLR that is as user friendly as possible.

Yesterday, after church, Addi just wasn't acting herself.  All she wanted to do was lay down and she was super whiny.  I thought I would go ahead and take her to VBS with me, but before we went I decided to take her temperature.  It was at least 100 (she was wiggling around so much I gave up after I saw she had a fever).  I ended up leaving her with Brad.  She slept 12 hours last night.  I went ahead and took her to the doctor this morning.  She said that Addi has a virus and it was her throat hurting and not her ears like I had originally thought.  All we can do is give her tylenol for the fever and pain.  This is what she did today...
She is usually running around getting into anything and everything, so this is definitely not like her.  I'm hoping she feels better tomorrow!

SUYL - Favorite Appetizers

Today, over at Kelly's Korner, Kelly is doing a Show Us Your Life on your favorite appetizers.  I LOVE "party" food.  Here are some of my favorites...

Cheesy Artichoke Dip

1 can artichoke hearts
1 cup parmesan cheese
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
garlic salt and dill weed to taste

Drain artichokes, then chop in a food processor.  Combine with rest of ingredients.  Pour into baking dish and bake 15-20 minutes @ 350.
Buffalo Chicken Dip
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
12 oz bottle of hot sauce
2 - 8 oz. packages cream cheese
16 oz bottle of ranch dressing
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Combine chicken with hot sauce and spread in the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish.  In a saucepan, combine the cream cheese and ranch dressing until smooth.  Pour over chicken mixture.  Cover with cheese. Bake for 30-40 minutes. To make this one easier, I usually buy a rotisserie chicken already cooked from the grocery store.

We have our small group tomorrow night and I plan on making this baked feta dip.  My mom and I had it as an appetizer at a local Italian restaurant a few months ago, and I can't wait to make it myself! YUM!

15 Months

Addi will be 15 months old tomorrow. I know I say this all of the time, but it’s SO hard to believe how fast time is passing by. She is such a big girl and I can’t get over everything she is learning to do on her own. She’s Miss Independent that’s for sure.

She won't stand still for pictures - always on the go!
She has added a few more words to her vocabulary. Every time she takes something from you or gives you something she says “tha” (thank you). She tells me “hi” about 50 times a day. Haha! She has started saying “da” when she points to her drink, so that one is a work in progress. Speech therapy starts next month. I’m very interested in how they work with a 15 month old on their speech? I plan on attending the first visit and can’t wait to find out how it all works! Even though she doesn’t say many words, she definitely understands me. If I say “let’s go take a bath” she will walk to the bathroom. I have been trying to teach her where certain body parts are and so far she can point to her feet when asked to do so.

She LOVES bathtime

When it comes to food, she will eat anything we do. Obviously, she doesn’t eat peanut butter or spicy foods. I’m still nervous about giving her cut up hot dogs too. She LOVES fruit! We are trying to keep her away from chocolate and candy for as long as we possibly can. She even chose a piece of fruit over a French fry the other night at Jim-N-Nicks. I wish I had that will power!

The daycare switch has gone ok so far. The first two days she did great, but yesterday the teacher said she cried a lot. I said a big prayer for her today! I was extremely nervous about naptime b/c she has never had to lay down on a nap mat to sleep before. But, apparently that has gone well also! I ordered a custom made nap mat for her and I’m hoping it comes in the mail today!

As I have mentioned before, she wasn’t too crazy about the “big” pool last weekend. However, Uncle Chad doesn’t know this yet, but she is planning on spending the day at his neighborhood pool tomorrow. Hopefully she will have fun!

Here are a few more things I would like to remember about her at 15 months:
*In the nursery at church she will only go to Mrs. Paula. Period.
*She loves for me to brush her teeth
*She still says “mmm” after EVERY bite
*She’s a total daddy’s girl
*Bath time is her favorite
*The Fresh Beat band is her new favorite show (she dances to every song!). Thank goodness b/c there is only so much Mickey Mouse we can stand! Oh and we only watch tv before bedtime.
