Love Those Long Weekends

I don’t know what it is about that extra day during a holiday weekend, but I’m voting that all weekends last three days instead of two. It makes such a difference in how much rest I get!

We spent Saturday morning at a birthday party. It was a pool party and Addi’s first time in a “big” pool. She wasn’t a fan. I’m thinking the water was way too cold for her. That night we went to celebrate a friend’s birthday at her house. We let Addi spend the night with her Honey and Dad (Brad’s parents).

Sunday, we met his parent’s at a local Mexican restaurant and Addi was TERRIBLE. She was exhausted and fighting sleep with everything she had. Thankfully, I talked with a friend Saturday night about ideas to keep Addi occupied when we go out to eat. I’m hoping to be better prepared next time we brave another restaurant with her. Because she didn’t take a nap that afternoon, she was in bed by 6:30 and slept until 7:30 the next morning.

Yesterday, we went to Brad’s parents for lunch and then rested the entire afternoon. That night, we had some friends over for dinner. Addi didn’t take a nap yesterday either, but she fought sleep until 9:00 last night.

Today was her first day at her new “school”. I was SO nervous when I dropped her off. She gets very attached to people and doesn’t accept change very well. I handed her over to her teacher and she screamed for about a minute. I hid and waited until she stopped crying and then left for work  I only called once to check on her so far and her teacher said she was just playing and doing well. Thank goodness! I know this week will be tough b/c she just doesn’t understand why she’s in a new place. I still feel good about our decision to move her and I know she will have fun playing with all of her new friends! Brad will be picking her up on his way home and I’m anxious to hear about her day!

Menu Plan Monday

Happy Memorial Day!  We are going to be little piggies today with all of the food that we are planning on eating!  For lunch we are heading over to Brad's parent's house for ribs.  Brad seriously grills the best ribs EVER.  They fall off the bone and you can eat them with a fork.  SO YUM!  For dinner, we are having some friends over to grill something (I haven't decided yet).  Here is my menu plan for the week...

Monday - grilled chicken ??, grilled veggies and ice cream sandwich dessert
Tuesday - Cheez-it chicken with rice and green beans
Wednesday - white bubble up pizza
Thursday - bacon cheeseburger pasta
Friday - OUT or leftovers
Saturday -grilled fish with veggies
Sunday - CLG

I have recently come across Plain Chicken.  She has so many recipes on her blog and I can't wait to try them!  In fact, I made some of these pizza puffs last night and they were so good.  I didn't have sausage, so I just used extra pepperoni.  They would be a perfect party appetizer.

I hope everyone has a great week!

SUYL - Favorite Desserts

Today, over at Kelly’s Korner, she is doing a link up on everyone’s favorite dessert recipes. I LOVE dessert, but I usually don’t prepare it unless it’s for a special occasion. Here are some of my “go-to” recipes.

Enjoy!

Thursday's Thoughts

In my post from yesterday I mentioned that Addi has been in the best mood. Well, maybe I spoke too soon. She was in a good mood and still going strong until about 9:00 last night. She was fighting sleep with all that she had, but I finally just put her to bed about 9:30. She whined for 2 seconds and then she was out. Around 1:30 she started crying and I put her in bed with us. She would not lay still. I’m thinking she had a tummy ache because she would only be still when she was curled up in a ball. Bless her. We are all running on MAYBE 3 hours of sleep today. Hopefully tonight will be better!

Tomorrow is her last day at her current daycare. Overall, we have been pleased with them, but there are a few things that I’m concerned about and we have made the decision to move her. I’m very nervous about this transition. I feel at peace with our decision, but she’s been at the same place with the same teachers for the past year and I’m scared she won’t adjust well to the new place. Please pray for a smooth transition!

On a completely unrelated note, I was finally able to cook some of the meals from last week’s menu plan. Our favorite was the cheesy potato soup. It was SO easy and yummy! If you don’t like a lot of cheese, then you probably won’t be a fan, but we are cheese lovers and it was delicious!

What I Love Wednesday

I mainly use this blog as a scrapbook for myself.  I know most of you could care less about what we do every day, but I enjoy looking back on it (especially to see how much Addi has grown).  I never know what to write about.  I wish someone would give me a topic everyday! haha!  Today, I decided to link up with Jamie over at This Kind Of Love to do what she calls "What I Love Wednesdays".  Enjoy!

I’m loving that this little stinker has been in the BEST mood this past week. She is full of laughs and talks all of the time.

I’m loving ruffles. These are my top picks. I’m definitely needing a wardrobe makeover!
 Printed One-Shoulder - Banana Republic
Ruffle Wrapped Halter Suit - Anthropologie

 Flamenco Shower Curtain - Anthropologie

I’m Loving Starbucks Mocha Coconut Frappacino. If you love coconut, you will definitely love this! I love starbucks, but I hate paying for $4 for a drink. Therefore, I used some of my Swagbucks to purchase a $10 giftcard.

Last, but definitely not least, I'm loving that this weekend will last 3 days instead of 2!

Little Bit of Everything...

Last Monday was just an ordinary Monday until about 4:30 that afternoon.  My mom called and told me that my dad had passed away.  As most of you know he spent 6 weeks in the hospital this past December.  He tried to go back to work, but it was just too much for him, so he retired two weeks ago.  He had been to several doctors and had tests run.  The tests came back normal, so we thought he was getting better.  We aren't sure what happened.  He had so many health problems that it could have been anything.  It doesn't really matter what happened because he is not sick anymore b/c he's with Jesus!  I appreciate all of the phone calls, cards, visits, texts and fb messages - it means more than you know!  Please continue to keep us in your prayers!

I have the privilege of tutoring three beautiful girls every Thursday with one of my coworkers.  We spent part of Friday morning with them at their school's field day.  It was SO hot outside, but they were having the best time playing on the inflatables, eating all of the popcorn and cotton candy they wanted!  I really do love these little girls.  We will be going to their awards day this week and that will be the last time we see them this school year.

The rest of my weekend was spent with my mom.  Brad has helped her out so much and I'm very thankful for him.  Addi kept us laughing and on our toes.  She is into everything!  We played in her pool Saturday and I took a lot of pictures (so I thought) but when I went to put the pics on my laptop there were none there.  I'm REALLY in need of a new camera.  I'm trying to save my money to buy a new one.  The one I want is really expensive, so it will probably be a while until I get it.

It was really hard going back to work today after being off this past week.  Thankfully, I was playing catch up and was very busy.  That helped to keep my mind off things.  At least this upcoming weekend is a holiday!

SUYL - Main Dish Recipes

This week at Kelly's Korner, she is doing SUYL favorite main dish recipes. I have mentioned many times before that I love cooking.  I have my standard dishes that I make, but most of the time I enjoy cooking new things.  I get tired of eating the same stuff over and over again.  My all time favorite dish is Roast, Potatoes and Carrots.  Here is the recipe I use:

1 Rump Roast - I just use what's on sale and whatever is big enough to feed my family
6-8 small red potatoes
3-4 carrots cut up (or a small bag of petite carrots)
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 envelope of onion soup mix
1 cup of water

Put the roast and veggies in the crock pot.  Mix soup, onion soup mix and water together with a whisk.  Pour over roast and veggies.  Cook 8 hours. YUM!  Most of the time I use cream of chicken soup instead of mushroom b/c my hubby doesn't like mushrooms.  I serve it with Jiffy Cornbread.

My other "go to" meals are:
Enchilada Ring
Chicken Parmesan
Poppyseed Chicken Casserole

We use our grill a lot in the summer time.  Any type of grilled fish is usually our favorite.

Menu Plan Monday

Since we are on a budget, I have learned to plan my meals ahead of time. It makes cooking so much easier and less stressful. I also hate having to run to the store two or three times a week because I forgot something. It’s just easier making a list of everything I will need for the week and only going to the store once. Therefore, I thought it would be fun to participate in OrgJunkie’s Menu Plan Monday. If I have a link to the recipe I am using, then I will post it here as well.

Monday – Taco Salad

Tuesday – Grilled Chicken Kabobs and grilled veggies

Wednesday - Cheesy Potato Soup

Thursday – Leftovers

Friday - OUT

Saturday – Steak, Baked Potatoes and Salad

Sunday – CLG

I am also planning on making a peach cobbler sometime this week! YUM!!

Monday already?

We had a nice relaxing weekend and we were able to accomplish a lot. Friday night, we were able to spend a much needed night out with some new friends. We started off with Olive Garden for dinner (YUM) and yogurt for dessert. We had a great time!

Saturday, we made our weekly trip to Lowes and dropped Addi off with Brad’s mom. Our anniversary is tomorrow, so I scheduled a couple’s massage for Saturday afternoon. It was wonderful! The rest of the day was spent working in the yard and grocery shopping.

We ended up sleeping in on Sunday and didn’t leave the house all day. It was great spending quality time with Addi and the hubs! She loves to play with her new kitchen. She slams the cabinets and walks around the house with pots and pans. Maybe she will enjoy cooking one day like mommy!

I have been trying to teach her where certain body parts are (nose, feet, hands, etc). Yesterday, she finally caught on. I asked her where her feet were and she grabbed them! I was so proud. I also asked her where her nose was and she put her hand on her face, but not her nose – she was oh so close! She continues to amaze me with how much she is learning!

I have got to get better at remembering to take pictures!!

A New Hobby...

It all started with the purchase of this...
A couple of months ago Brad sold his 4-wheeler so he could purchase this riding lawn mower.  Ever since then he LOVES working in the yard.  I guess  because it takes him 1/2 the time to cut the yard now. We He has planted a garden and just enjoys being outdoors.

My friend Mallory and I have started a new hobby as well...painting furniture!  We have started our first project and I can't wait to show everyone how it turns out.

Lowe's and Home Depot have become our favorite stores and we always end up spending way too much money when we go in there.  We are definitely getting older b/c three years ago when we married we would have never thought these would be our interests!!

Mother's Day

I can't believe last year on Mother's Day Addi was only 3 months old and was dedicated at church.  This year, I woke up to a gift certificate to get a massage and my hubby even cooked me breakfast and served it to me in bed!  He's the GREATEST!

After church, we met his mom at Cracker Barrel.  My child acted up and I took her out to play with the toys.  I can't stand paying for dinner and have a screaming kid sitting next to my table, therefore, I will not subject anyone else to that!  I ended up eating my Mother's Day lunch at home so Brad and his mom could visit.  If we want to go out to eat from now on, we will be getting it to go. :)

After a two hour nap Addi was ready to play!  Here she is in her cute little tutu swimsuit my sweet friend gave her for her b'day.  I love it! She's always on the go, so it's hard to get a good picture of her. haha!
She loves playing in her pool.  Except she doesn't want to sit down, she would much rather stand (she wont sit in the bathtub either). Which makes a very nervous mommy.

That night we went to eat dinner with my parents.  My mom and I are very close.  Brad makes fun of how often we call each other during the day. haha.  I'm VERY thankful for her and I couldn't ask for a better mom!

God has blessed me with the most beautiful baby girl and I'm so thankful to be her mommy!

SUYL - Favorite Vacation Spot

This week over at Kelly’s Korner she is doing her SUYL on our favorite vacation spots. Ours has to be the beach! We usually go to Orange Beach/Gulf Shores or Panama City. Orange Beach is by far my fav. We haven’t been on a vacay in a couple of years, so I’m dying to go this year! In fact, I’m really trying to convince the hubs we should go next weekend for our anniversary. Addi has never been to the beach, so I’m really looking forward to her first trip.

We love laying out and playing on the beach all day. I will not, however, get in the ocean. It kinda freaks me out. I would much rather be in the sand, or laying by the pool. My favorite thing is getting showered and ready for dinner after being in the sun all day. Our favorite restaurants in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores are LuLu’s, The Original Oyester House, and Sea N Suds. The last time my mom and I went to the beach together we went to the Tin Top Restaurant in Bon Secour, AL. It’s about 10-15 miles from the beach. It was amazing! I highly recommend it.

I also love New York City. I’ve been a few times and just can’t get enough of it. I don’t think I would ever want to live there, but it’s nice to visit. It’s definitely the total opposite of my Sweet Home Alabama!

*I tried adding pictures, but for some reason it wouldn't let me!  I will try to add them tonight :)

14 Months...

I still can’t believe how fast Addi is growing! It’s like after she turned 1 she’s learning so many new things! She’s becoming very independent and stubborn (just like her daddy j/k) There are sometimes she likes to be held, but for the most part she prefers walking around trying to find something to get into. Now she is tall enough to reach and open doors.

When it comes to food, she will eat anything. I’ve tried to start letting her feed herself with her fork or spoon, but it’s SO messy. She understands the concept, but I’m not sure she’s coordinated enough for that yet haha. She still says “mmm” after every single bite. Yogurt and French toast sticks are probably her favs.

Our sleeping situation has defintely gotten better. She has slept all night in her bed for the past week or so. We still have to wait until she falls asleep and then put her to bed. But I have learned if she wakes up as I’m putting her in the bed to just let her whine as long as she is still laying down – it usually only lasts about 5-10 minutes. Now if she stands up and screams bloody murder, then I go get her and put her in bed with us

Addi has learned to hit and scratch. She knows she is doing wrong and no matter how many times I tell her “no” she keeps on. We started popping her on the hand, but that still doesn’t seem to help. The other night she scratched me and Brad told her no and then popped her hand and she went to screaming, but two seconds later she was running to him to hold her and she was all smiles once in his arms. She’s strong willed that’s for sure!

Here are some other things she says/does:
• She can say “mama” “dada” “nana” “kitty” “hey” “bye” and “duck”
• She loves playing with my hair and everytime I hold her she starts running her fingers through it. We know she is sleepy when she starts playing with her own hair.
• Every time music starts playing she sways back and forth and moves her arms. She loves to dance. In      fact, last night she was walking and I started singing the “hot dog dance” song and she fell down b/c she was trying to walk and dance at the same time! Haha.
• She hates the process of getting dressed and it’s normally a fight to dress her every morning.
• She loves “school” and is so happy to see her teachers. On the other hand, she screams when we drop her off in the nursery every Sunday at church.

Weekend

Wow, this weekend went by so fast!  I love spending time with my fam and just wished weekends lasted longer.  Friday night we went out to eat and Addi was very good.  She apparently loves grilled chicken tenders and mashed potatoes from Cracker Barrel! haha.

Saturday, we went to the park bright and early.  Addi is not a fan of the slide.  She prefers running around watching all of the other kids and swinging.  I took a few pictures...

After the park, we went to Home Depot and bought several gardening supplies.  I said I wanted to start out small, so I got Basil, Cilantro, Dill and Rosemary.  I knew that I would use these herbs in the kitchen!  We also bought a tomato plant, bell peppers, banana peppers and cucumbers.  We are just experimenting with our garden this year, so hopefully we will learn and make it even bigger and better next year! While we worked outside, we let Addi play in her pool.  The water was a little chilly, so all she wanted to do was put her hands in it and play.
Sunday was pretty relaxing.  Addi and I went to church while daddy went to cut down trees in a community that was destroyed by the tornadoes. He said it was like nothing he's ever seen.  Please continue to pray for healing for all of the communities that were affected by the storms.
