I'm obsessed

When I first found out I was pregnant, I couldn't wait to find out whether we were having a boy or a girl.  Once I found out, the shopping began!  They make so many cute girl clothes and I'm kind of obsessed with buying them.  I'm also very particular about what she wears.  I had one lady tell me that I dress my child too nice for daycare.  Well...when she decides to buy my child's clothing then she can MAYBE have input on what I put on my daughter.  But until then I will dress her how I please :)

Addi's closet looked awful.  I haven't cleaned in out in forever and she still had winter clothes hanging up. Today, I spent about an hour attempting to organize it.  FYI - when it comes to organizational skills, I don't have them!!  I'm in desperate need of help in that area!  Anyways, here is a picture after I cleaned her closet out. Can you even begin to imagine what it looked like before this?!? haha.  It's still bad, I know.  This is all her clothes she can wear now (18-24 mo.).  And, yes, that is a pair of camouflage boots my hubby bought our DAUGHTER.

All of the clothes on the top shelf need to be reorganized and folded.  They are semi-grouped by size right now.  Thankfully, we have some friends who have a little girl about 6 months younger than Addi and I can pass some of her clothes down to her.  I would hate to get rid of all of her clothes in case we have another girl someday.

I know most of you could care less about my daughter's closet, but this is to remind me someday of how ridiculous I was am :)

Parts of Alabama are in shambles after the deadly tornadoes that roared through our state last night.  Hundreds are dead and many are still missing.  It truly breaks my heart and I can't even begin to imagine what they are going through.  A tornado was reported about a mile from our house, but we had zero damage.  Our power only flickered once and our satellite went out for maybe 10 minutes, but that's it.  We don't even have debris in our yard.

My prayer is that God will bring comfort and healing to those who have lost loved ones and that He will put His healing hand on those who are injured.

Doctors and Stormy Weather

Yesterday, Addi had an appointment with her neurologist.  I will never forget the day we met him for the first time.  He showed up at the hospital 3 hours late and I seriously didn't understand one thing he said.  He offered us more confusion rather than answers.  Needless to say we didn't think too highly of him. We have been to see him about 4 times since she was released from the hospital and we have grown to love him.  At her appointment yesterday, he gave her a pat on the back and said he didn't have to see her again unless problems developed sometime down the road.  At our last appointment, 6 months ago, her EEG was normal, but he did tell us that she could possibly have seizures again when she gets a little older.  We are continuing to pray that does not happen and that we will have no reason to go to his office again.

We played outside yesterday afternoon :)

This morning I woke up around 5:30 to find out we were having severe weather.  (Brad is going to buy us a weather radio this afternoon)  A lot of the schools were delayed opening.  I called the daycare to find out if there were planning on closing early.  She said they would probably close around 12 or 1.  I made the decision just to stay home with her since I would only be going to work for about 3 hours anyways.  More bad weather is expected tonight.  I'm thankful we have a basement to go to if it gets really bad!

We have had so much fun playing today.  She has been walking around the house with a paci in each hand.  Every few minutes she will take one out and put the other in! haha!  She's currently napping and i'm having some "me" time.  I could get used to staying home :)

Easter Weekend

I have really been a slacker when it comes to getting Addi’s pictures made. The last ones we had done were when she was 6 months old. Our original plan was to have family pictures made, but I think we are going to wait until the Fall to do those. Instead, mom and I took Addi to Botanical Gardens to do her 1 year pictures. Lisa Marie is our photographer and we LOVE her! Go check out her website! Addi did great and I can’t wait to see how they turned out!

We then hopped over to a local mall to see the Easter bunny. She was unsure of him at first, but then gave us a big smile for her picture! Side note - $20 for pictures with the Easter bunny, seriously???

Saturday was our neighborhood Easter egg hunt. Addi lasted a whole 5 minutes until she wanted to run wide open on the concrete and about gave me a heart attack. I then proceeded to call her dad to come get her! Haha! We ended up having about 20 kids show up.

Sunday, after church, we had our parents over for Easter lunch. I’m still full! The Easter bunny left Addi a basket with two books, PJ’s and plastic eggs. I think she could play with those plastic eggs for hours. She kept walking around the house with her basket in hand – it was precious! Brad’s mom took Addi home with her and I seriously had the BEST 2 hour nap ever! It was much needed.

Addi was wide awake when we got home from our small group around 9:00. She finally went to sleep around 10:30 and woke up at 12:30. She has done a little better about sleeping all night in her bed the past couple of days. Hopefully that continues this week!

I took a lot of pictures this weekend, but apparently something is wrong with my camera b/c when I went to put the memory card in my laptop to upload the pics, there were none there! I have no clue what’s going on with it. I’ve already shattered the screen and now it won’t take pics. Hopefully a new camera is in my future!

Isn’t it amazing how God tells us exactly what we need to hear when we need to hear it? Last night and bible study we read this verse:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”
                                                                                                                     Matthew 11:28

I can’t tell you how badly I needed to hear that! There are often times in my life (like right now) where I am physically and mentally exhausted. I’m the type of person that can’t say no. My plate is often full with things that I have committed to do b/c I simply couldn’t just say no. Whether it’s church or work I need to realize that if it’s not God’s plan for me, then I need to say no. I don’t need to say “Sure, I will help with that” or “Of course I will be the chair on that committee” just because I’m asked to do so.

A lot of this has to do with me wanting to please people and not wanting to disappoint them. Part of my job here on earth is not to be a people pleaser. It’s to do whatever God’s will is for my life. I’m so glad I was reminded of that last night!

Isn’t it a great feeling to know that we can call on Him and find rest??

We had tornados and just plain old nasty weather in the state of Alabama Friday. Addi’s daycare closed early, so I had to bring her to work with me. She was very good! She loves to unpack her diaper bag and then pack it again, so that’s what she did all afternoon Friday, haha!

Saturday, we headed to Huntsville to see one of my very best friends!! We were able to spend some time with her and her hubby and go see the house they are building. It’s so nice and I’m VERY happy for them! Addi wasn’t on her best behavior, especially at PF Changs. I asked Brad if you could have the “terrible 1’s” instead of 2’s? haha. She’s really not that bad, but she’s very strong willed! She knows what she wants and she’s not giving up until she gets it!

We went to church as usual Sunday morning. That afternoon I walked part of the neighborhood putting out flyers for our neighborhood Easter egg hunt that's next Saturday. I think we handed out a total of 100 flyers! The hunt is being sponsored by our church and I think it will be a lot of fun! Thankfully there is another family from our church who lives in our subdivision and we are doing the hunt together. I’m hoping a lot of kids show up!

Our weekend ended by going to our small group. LOVE THEM! We haven’t been in 2 weeks, so it was good to be back. Our group got so big that we had to divide into three separate groups (what a blessing!). We are now going to one closer to our house, which is nice. Thankfully, Brad’s parents will be keeping Addi so we can go. I’m excited about what God is doing in all of our lives!

SUYL - What's on your reading list?

Today, at Kelly’s Korner, she is doing SUYL – What’s on your reading list?

I have been reading a lot more lately. It’s so much easier with the Nook. I can throw it in my purse and read on my lunch break or at home before bed time. Here are some books that I have read over the past month or so:

Heaven is For Real, by Todd Burpo

I LOVED this book. Seriously, I think I read it in one day. This is a true story of a little boy’s journey to heaven during an emergency surgery. All of his details were amazing. I know heaven is a real place, but hearing of someone who was actually there gives me chills! This is a GREAT read!

Karen Kingsbury is one of my favorite authors. Several years ago I was hooked to her series about the Baxter family. I love that each of the series are different but still revert back to the same characters. If you have never read any of her books I strongly suggest starting with The Redemption Series and then go from there. I’m telling you, you will be hooked! In the past month I have read Take Two, Take Three and I’m currently on Take Four.

Last year, while Addi was in the hospital, I started reading Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. I never finished it and I told myself I was going to start reading it again. (It’s on my list!) Well, a year has gone by and I still haven’t finished it. As soon as finish the book I’m on, I’m going to start Redeeming Love over again. It’s been so long that I don’t even remember what the story was about!

What books are you currently reading?

Gardening 101

These past few weekends I have loved being outside. Normally I’m an inside girl. I burn easily and I hate bugs, so wanting to be outside is unusual for me! This year, for some reason, I’m drawn outdoors. I have this bright idea that I’m going start a little garden. I’m going to preface this by saying that I don’t think I’ve ever planted anything in my life. I’m going to start out VERY small and do an herb garden. I love to cook, so this should be great! I’m still trying to figure out exactly which herbs I want to grow. Rosemary is definitely on my list – LOVE roasted potatoes with rosemary – YUM!

I’m also thinking about growing some tomatoes and bell peppers. Whatever I start out with I want to plant them in containers. I don’t think I’m ready for digging in the ground yet! Haha!

I have found several blogs with tutorials to help me get started. Do any of you garden? If so, what do types of things do you plant? Any tips/suggestions?

Random Ramblin'

All day long I have been thinking it was Thursday.  I was sorely disappointed when I remembered it was actually Wednesday and there are still two more days until the weekend.  For the past few weeks I have been saying that I was going to start working out again.  And each day I would say "I will start tomorrow".  Well...tonight I finally got off my hiney and walked around the neighborhood.  Eventually I want to be running around my neighborhood, but I have to start out slow!  An app on my phone said I walked 1.63 miles - I guess that's a good start.  Hopefully I will keep it up!

I was greeted by this little booger when I got home from my walk.  Isn't she the cutest??  I'm so excited it's finally warm enough for her to wear her cute spring/summer clothes!! :)

Now, I'm sitting here watching Extreme Couponing.  These people are crazy. I love couponing, but they definitely take it to the next level.  Plus, I can't stand when I go to the store and the shelves are cleaned out of everything I have a coupon for b/c someone decided they needed 15 of each item.

I'm still not 100% happy with my blog design, but it will do for now.  To be honest, I'm tired of messing with it.

That's enough rambling for now. :)

We had a great weekend.  Saturday, I left Brad to play with his new riding lawnmower and a friend and I went to some yard sales.  We found some great things and I think I've found a new hobby!  That night Addi and I hung out while Brad went to watch the race with some friends.

Sunday was Brad's grandmother's 82nd birthday.  We made the trip to Scottsboro and joined them for lunch.  Addi has only seen her great-grandmother a handful of times, but she warmed right up to her and loved playing "ride little horsey".

We took advantage of the beautiful day and took a family pic

We are loving this weather!

Technologically Challenged...

I have said before that I want a blog makeover.  Well, I don't want to pay for someone to do it and I had this bright idea that I would give it a try.  FAIL!  I have no clue what I'm doing! haha.  I would get the background the way I wanted it and then I couldn't get the header to line up right or vice versa.  I will keep trying to work on it though.

Another thing Brad and I are trying to work on is our yard.  We  He has a lot of landscaping ideas for our yard, but we are just going to slowly start on one project at a time.  Luckily, the people who lived here before us planted three rose bushes.  Brad picked this flower off the one in our backyard.  It is huge and so pretty! Working in the yard has never been something I wanted to do, but i'm kind of excited about planting flowers and helping him with his projects.  I will try to take before and after photos!

I will post about our weekend tomorrow, but now I'm going to get some shut eye!

SUYL - Mother's Day/Father's Day Ideas

Today at Kelly's Korner, she is doing a SUYL on Mother's Day and Father's Day ideas.

Last year was my first Mother's Day and it was so special!  Addi was dedicated at church that day and all of our close family and friends were there.  She was three months old, but had only been out of the hospital two months and I was just so thankful for her life and the opportunity to be her momma.  All I wanted that day was to be with my family (and maybe take a nap :)

Growing up, we would go to my grandmother's house for lunch and just spend the day together.  We never really did big gifts, just something small and a card.

I was trying to think of some creative ideas for gifts, but all I could think about were the things that I would want.  Here are a few...
1.  A spa/relaxation day - To show mom how much she means to you give her a day to herself to just relax.  A giftcard for a massage or mani/pedi is a great idea too.

2. Customized Jewelry - I love all of the custom jewelry options out there.  One of my favs is The Vintage Pearl.  I mean how cute are those necklaces?  I'm not a big fan of flashy jewelry (unless it's a diamond :), but these are perfectly simple.  I think this would also be a good option for a woman who's expecting.

3. Note or Card - You could simply write a note telling your mom how much she means to you.  Creating your own card is another option.  Brad made me a card for Valentine's day and it meant the world to me.

4.  Photobook - I'm a HUGE fan of creating photo books.  There are so many websites out there that offer this service.  They are a great way of preserving your photos and memories.

All moms are different and would enjoy different things.  Just think of the things she enjoys doing and go from there.

As for Father's Day, I'm not really sure.  Last year we spent the day with Brad and got him an Academy giftcard.  He just bought a riding lawn mower, so that will probably be part of his gift this year :)

13 Months...

I'm a little late in posting her 13 month update, but better late than never, right?  She's growing SO fast and turning into such a big girl.  I just can't get over all of the new stuff she is doing.

She is walking more and more each day and is finally getting the hang of it.  Her crawl is normal now and she doesn't just push herself with one leg out, haha.  She had her one year evaluation with Hand In Hand yesterday and they are very impressed with her development.  Especially considering only 6 months ago she wasn't even rolling over or crawling.  She will continue working with her Physical Therapist once a month.  Next they will work on walking on uneven surfaces, going up stairs and playing on the playground!

We also discussed my concern for her speech.  Right now her words consist of "mama", "dada", "nana" and "kitty".  This is very typical for a one year old, but we all think she should be imitating our words more than she is.  Currently, she hasn't moved up to a toddler room at daycare yet b/c there simply isn't enough room.  Therefore, all she hears is babies crying all day and has nothing really to "imitate" but noises.  It would definitely help if she could move up and have more interaction with the kids her age and a little older.  She will start working with a Speech Therapist within the next month.  I know I've said it before, but I'm so thankful that she has the opportunity to work with these therapists and I wish every child had that same opportunity.

Other Happenings...

She weighs 26 lbs and I'm not sure how tall she is, but compared to other 1 year olds, she's pretty tall!  Every time music is playing she starts swinging those hips and moving those arms.  It's so cute!  When you say "bye bye" she waves.  She gives the best hugs and open mouth kisses ever.  She eats anything and everything you give her.  She knows what her "drink" is and when I say the word she starts drinking from her sippy.  Mickey Mouse is still her favorite.  She holds her MM doll by his yellow feet whenever she has him (not sure why).  If I say "where's Mickey?" she looks at the TV.  Slamming cabinet doors is apparently another one of her favorites b/c she does it all the time! haha! We still don't have much of a routine for night night time, but right now I"m happy with her falling asleep in either Brad's arms or mine.  I'm going to enjoy it while I can!  Here is a pic of her after we got home yesterday from work and "school"...

My baby is growing too fast!!

Oh Monday...

It doesn't matter how much rest I get over the weekend, it's still SO hard to wake up on Monday morning.  Monday's are my busiest day b/c I have bible study and zumba and somehow have to cook dinner and clean house.  I let the crockpot help me out with dinner today.  :)

Addi was still fussy this morning and that's just not like her at all.  After I got to work I decided to call the doctor's office and talk to a nurse.  She said to bring her in.  It turns out she has some type of virus that's affecting her tummy and making her stay congested.  Bless my sweet girl!  Brad's parents kept her this afternoon so I could go back to work.  I'm thinking she's on the last leg of this virus, so hopefully she will feel better soon!

Storms are working their way towards us, so all of my Monday night activities have been canceled.  I'm planning on spending a lazy night in front of the tv with my fam!

Poor Baby

This little booger woke up around 9:00 last night and didn't go back to sleep until 4:00 this morning.  I put her in bed with us after she woke up and she was so restless.  She was exhausted, but just couldn't stay still.  My sweet hubby took her downstairs and stayed awake with her.  We both woke up around 8:00 and let daddy sleep!  I could tell she still didn't feel good, so we skipped church and just hung out here today.  Bless her heart, I think she was just gassy and had a tummy ache.  She's sleeping soundly in her bed right now.

It's not often we get the opportunity to just hang out, play and cuddle all day.  Even though she didn't feel good, I'm still thankful for our "family time" Sunday!

She is also walking more and more!  I love her little Frankenstein walk :)

On the Move

Thursday night I left Addi home with Brad while a friend and I went to a consignment sale and dinner.  While we were eating Brad sent me a video with Addi walking by herself! I couldn't believe it and I was so happy!  She was in bed when I got home, but the next morning we got her to do it again.  She is slowly but surely getting the hang of it.  She takes a few steps here and there, but I know it wont be too long and she will be running around the house!  She is already practically running when she pushes her little toy around the house.  It cracks me up!

Today was a beautiful day in Alabama!  I really wanted to take Addi to the zoo, but everyone was a party pooper and wouldn't tag along.  Instead mom, Addi and I went to meet my beautiful mommy-to-be cousin for lunch and then we just spent the rest of the day hanging out with my parents.  Brad was busy playing with his new riding lawn mower and then going to the old house to FINALLY sign all the papers with our realtor and put a for sale sign in the yard. I'm praying it sells quickly (I'm needing a new car and we need to finish the basement and not to mention i'm tired of paying two mortgages each month!).  Addi didn't get much of a nap today so she's been in bed since 7:00 and hopefully she will sleep all night.

I feel like a bad mom lately b/c I haven't taken any pictures.  That's definitely something I will be working on this week!
