Fun Weekend with the Fam!

We have just had the best weekend! It was spent relaxing, eating too much and football!  Friday night we went out to eat and then to my parent's house.  I think Addi is getting shy like her momma!  We ran in to some people we knew at the restaurant and when they would speak to her she just put her head down and wouldn't look at them!  When she is with us, she is so talkative and NOT shy.  I think it's cute that her little personality is starting to come out.

We had people over for the game Saturday.  I just love having a house full of people watching the game! The boys smoked some chicken, I made baked beans, and we had pie and cake for dessert. Here is Addi in her football jersey saying "Roll Tide!"
Today, we were pretty lazy.  Addi was kind of fussy this morning, so we didn't make it to church.  I think she has more teeth coming in.  We spent the rest of the day doing laundry, napping and playing with Addi boo!

Brad starts a new job tomorrow, so be praying for him. I'm SO proud of him and all of his accomplishments! I will leave y'all with one more picture of my girl... She is definitely teething because her shirt is soaking wet from where she's been drooling! But, it's still a cute picture :)

When I used to visit Addi in the hospital I couldn’t help but find myself wondering about the other families that were there. What was their situation? What are they going through? There were a couple of babies there that I never saw a parent visiting. At first I was furious at those parents. How can you have a sick baby and not even come and visit?? I began thinking about it and I realized that not everyone is as lucky as we were. Some of the mom’s in there had to work during the day and visit when they could at night. Some had to just visit on the weekends because they lived out of town. I had no clue what some of these families were going through, but all I could do was pray for them.

Ever since Addi was dismissed from the hospital, I knew I wanted to give back to the NICU in some form or fashion. I began to Google “NICU ministries”. I came across Footprints Ministry. They have three chapters in our state and one happens to me in my area! I knew I had to sign up to help. Footprints makes gift bags to give to the NICU families. They contain a bible, burp cloth, receiving blanket, disposable camera, gift cards, etc. We also pray for the families. My personal prayer for them is that they know Jesus Christ and they have faith and trust in Him to take of them in their times of need. I couldn’t imagine going through that without having faith in Him. Footprints is also trying to start a prayer/support group for these families. This is something I’m really excited about! I had plenty of people surrounding me that I could have talked to, but it would have been nice to have someone who has been in my shoes and actually understood what I was going through. We want to encourage these families and let them know that God is there for them. They might not understand why things happen the way they do, but God’s ways are greater than our own!

Even though I wouldn’t want Addi to ever have any pain or hurt, I wouldn’t change the way things happened. I’m actually thankful for what happened. It brought my husband and I closer to together and closer to the Lord. It made us more thankful than we ever would be for our little girl. Her story has been a blessing and encouragement to others. It’s also given me the opportunity to be involved in this awesome ministry to help share God’s love.

Please let me know if you would like to volunteer your time to Footprints!

Show Us Your Life - Home Tour

Today, at Kelly's Korner she is doing a "Show us Your Life - Home Tour". Well, this is my living room!  It still needs A LOT of work.  We moved into our house about 3 months ago and I still haven't done everything I want to yet.  I would like to add an area rug, coffee table, new end tables, and lamps.  We bought our furniture about a month before we moved in.  I'm not 100% crazy about it.  It's a little "manly" looking for me :)  My husband really picked it out.  One thing I will say is it's VERY comfortable! Every seat in the love seat and both ends of the sofa recline.  All of my decorations pretty much came from Kirklands.  They are priced reasonably and have nice stuff! My favorite decoration is the piece above the loveseat. Overall, the room is very simple.  I can't wait to decorate for fall!

6 Months Old

My sweet angel will be 6 months old Saturday.  Time has flown by and I can't remember my life before her.  I love her more and more every day.  She makes my heart happy!

A lot has happened since my last update.  Here are a few exciting things that have gone on in the life of Addi:

Two teeth have come in.  Teething hasn't been bad at all.  I know this is an up close picture and if you look closely you can see two little teethies on the bottom!

She attended her first wedding.  My sweet Hannah Jane got married and Addi wouldn't have missed it for the world!

She's moved on from rice cereal and has tried apple sauce and sweet potatoes.  She just holds the food in her mouth and once she realizes it's there, she spits it out. Lovely!  I think she liked the sweet potatoes more than the applesauce!

She can sit up on her own now!! I'm so proud of her!  She's still a little wobbly, but continues to make progress.

She has also had her first ear infection :(  She was absolutely pitiful!!

Today was her follow-up with her neurologist, Dr. Mathisen. She was scheduled for an EEG as well.  I was planning on being back there with her for her test, but the nurse told me I had to sit in a chair and no matter how much she screamed or cried I wasn't allowed to get up from the chair to comfort her and if I did, I would be asked to leave the room.  I knew I wouldn't be able to handle watching her get upset without doing something about it, so I just decided to stay in the waiting room with my mom.  When the nurse brought her back she said she didn't cry at all.  Her hair was all matted up from the gel they put on her head.  It was quite humorous.  I wish I would have taken a picture!  We quickly got a washcloth and a brush and fixed it the best we could :)  We then met with Dr. M and he gave us the results - he said the results were excellent and she's "100% normal".  He was happy with her development and told us he really didn't have to continue seeing her.  I decided that I wanted to her come back for one more visit with him in 6 months.  He also said an MRI is not necessary at this point! PRAISE JESUS!!! I can't wrap it around my head that 6 months ago we were worried about her future and the problems she would experience and now she's a beautiful, HEALTHY baby girl!!!!  That just goes to show that God is in control.  He can do so much more than we could ever imagine.  I'm so thankful for all of the blessings he has given us - we are so undeserving.

Needless to say, today was a GREAT day! My mom, Addi and I did a little shopping and ran some errands after her appt.  She talked and laughed all day!  She's such a happy baby!  Her new thing is sticking her tongue out and blowing and thus spitting everywhere.   She also has a high pitched "squeal" that she has just started doing.

I'm really looking forward to this weekend.  Friday, we are playing church softball.  Saturday, Addi is having her 6 month pictures made and we are having people over to cookout and watch football.  I still haven't decided what to cook Saturday.  I know Brad and Chad are grilling ribs and chicken.  I need some good snacks, sides and desserts to go with it - any suggestions???

Maybe I won't wait a month before my next post :)
