Memorial Day Weekend

Well...we got the house!! Saturday, we went and looked at it again.  There is still some work that needs to be done, but thankfully it's not much.  Since it's a foreclosure, ALL of the appliances are gone.   Pretty much all of the light fixtures are gone too.  After we went and looked at the house, we went with my parents to Home Depot.  They bought us a light fixture for the foyer and kitchen as our housewarming present.  Thanks mom and dad! :)  Most of the things that need to be done will have to wait until we sell our house.

Over the past 5 days Addi has been very congested.  She woke up coughing this morning.  Her pediatrician told me if she's congested for about a week to bring her in.  Well, thankfully the doctor's office was open today.  This morning we woke up and I called and got her an appointment.  Her doctor was off today so we had to see someone else.  Addi has her first cold :(  There's not much we can do about it except keep using the humidifier and saline drops.  The doctor said I did the right thing by bringing her in though.  I figured all of this was caused by her first week in daycare.  She's just not used to being around that many germs.  Hopefully her stuffiness will clear up soon.

On another note, I'm still amazed at how many people prayed for Addi while she was sick.  We keep meeting people who have no clue who we are, but they tell us how much they prayed for her.  It keeps reminding me how important it is to have a daily prayer life.  I'll be honest, I struggle with this.  I pray every day, but not like I should.  It was so easy to be in prayer all of the time while she was in the hospital.  But, now that things are "normal" it's hard to keep up that active prayer life.  One of my goals for this week is to work on my morning quiet time and my time in prayer.  I'm not a morning person, but I realize that spending time with the Lord is the best way to start your day.  Please pray that I stay committed to my quiet times!

Back to Work I Go...

Monday was my first day back at work and Addi's first day at daycare.  I was nervous dropping her off, but I didn't cry.  I was VERY proud of myself! The director told me to feel free to call during the day to check up on her.  I only called once and they said she was doing great.  I had such a bad attitude about going back to work and it really wasn't as bad as I expected.  It was kind of nice getting out of the house! Although, I still missed Addi very much.  I know she is being taken care of though.  Several people called me during the day to tell me that they had been praying and thinking about me.  I know this is what made my transition back to work easier! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

I have had to be a little better organized and prepared since going back to work.  It's not easy getting up at 5:00 am and getting myself and a little one ready for the day.  So the night before I prepare bottles, diaper bag and both mine and Brad's lunches.  This makes everything so much easier in the morning!  One of the things that has helped me prepare for the next day is this...
A Cuisinart wand hand mixer!  While spending many hours of my day with the nurses in the NICU, I asked a lot of questions.  I had no clue how to take care of a baby and they were very helpful and offered up a lot of advice. One of the nurses told me to buy one of these mixers and use it to mix her formula for the day.  I would never have thought of that!  I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond that day and bought one.  However, I never used it until this past Sunday night.  I thought I would give it a try since I had to make 3 bottles for her day at daycare.  She eats about three 5 oz. bottles while she is there and this mixer comes with a mixing container that holds 15 oz!  I just fill it up with water, put the right amount of formula in and mix away! It was mixed in seconds - I'm now obsessed! Definitely a must have for a mom with a formula fed baby :)

I have been cutting coupons all night preparing for my grocery trip tomorrow.  Brad and I have to start saving a lot more money now b/c we put an offer on a house!!! Most of you know my dislike for our current house.  I'm ALWAYS looking at houses on the internet and bugging Brad about buying one.  For the most part he just ignores me and continues whatever he's doing.  Well, he finally listened!  He called our real estate agent Friday to ask about a house he had seen on a website.  He set up an appointment for us to go see it Saturday morning.  We walked around the house for about an hour and another hour later we were putting in an offer!  I'm SO excited!  This house has so much more room than the one we are in now.  One of the things I was looking for in a house was a big laundry room.  I hate our laundry "closet" we have now.  Well, this house has one!  Storage is also a downfall of the house we are in now.  The new house has a basement which will help out tremendously!  We still haven't heard if the they have accepted our offer, but maybe we will hear something by the end of the week.  We still have a lot to do before we even think about putting our current house on the market.  We are prepared to sit on it for at least a year b/c of the bad economy.  Renting it out has also crossed our minds, but who knows!  So if we do get the new house we will be paying two mortgages which means we have to save every dime we have.  Please pray our house sells quickly!

Doctor's Visit

I can't believe my baby will be three months old next week! She is a little behind with her shots, so we went to the doctor yesterday for her 2 month check-up.  She weighed in at 14 lb. 5 oz. and is 25 1/2 inches long.  She was such a good girl! She had to get 4 shots :(  She was not happy at all! I've never seen her face get that red before.  After a minute or two she calmed down though.

Here are some things about my sweet Addi girl at almost 3 months:
* She LOVES to kick - I think she could lay on her activity mat and kick all day long
* She is smiling and laughing a lot more lately - her laugh is my favorite sound ever!
* She is eating 5 ounces every 3 hours - at bedtime I feed her 6 oz.
* She has been sleeping at least 8 hours for the past week - last night she slept 10!
* She is in a size 2 diaper
* She is wearing mostly 3-6 months clothes
* Her passy is her favorite
Here she is posing in mommy's new chair!

Show Us Your Life - Favorite Books

Over at Kelly's Korner today she is doing Show Us Your Life - Your favorite books!  When I was a child I don't think I read very much.  I hated the reading they made you do in school, so that's probably why I didn't read for pleasure.  However, I do remember loving these books...
The Baby-Sitters Club!!! I used to have a TON of these books and I'm interested to see if my mom kept them.  Maybe Addi will like them one day.
I will never forget Sweet Valley High! I liked both The Baby-Sitters Club and Sweet Valley High because they were a "series" of books.  I love books that continue in a series. I mean who likes when a good book ends? That way you can just go to the next book to continue the story. Right now my favorite series is...
I love me some Karen Kingsbury.  She is a Christian author so her books aren't "trashy" like other romantic fiction books.  Take One is the last book of hers I read and I've been meaning to read Take Two, but I have been a little busy lately! :)

While Addi was in the hospital I started reading Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. It's a re-telling of the book of Hosea.  I got half-way through it and quit when we brought Addi home.  I LOVED this book though! As soon as I have time I'm going to finish it.

I do enjoy a good book and wish I would have liked it more when I was younger. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm getting a Sony Reader and hopefully that will encourage me to finish these books that I have started but never finished!

10 Weeks Old

My baby is 10 weeks old today and I can't believe it.  I will have to take a 10 week old picture tomorrow b/c she is sleeping soundly right now!  Today was her first day of physical therapy.  The PT said she did great!  She played patty cake with her and sang different songs while she worked with her.  She also gave me some homework assignments and different exercises to do with her.  Addi was holding her head up so good and I know before too long she will be rolling from her tummy to her back.

Addi has been sleeping in our room since we brought her home.  Last night I decided to put her in the crib.  We put her down around 11:00 and she woke up fussy around 1:00.  She has been sleeping about 8 hours.  I decided she couldn't sleep because it was too quiet.  She is used to Brad's breathing machine and the humidifier.  So, tonight I put the humidifier in her room and so far so good!  I know I have to start getting Addi on a schedule since I will have to go back to work soon.  I put her in bed at 8:30 tonight so we will see when she wakes up!

Tonight I made a yummy new dessert - chocolate cobbler! It was really good.  Especially with ice cream on top.  You can find the recipe here . It was really easy too!

Tomorrow we are going bridesmaids dress shopping with our favorite bride-to-be, Hannah Jane! Hopefully Addi will behave. :)

Out and About

Every time someone asks me when or if I'm going back to work I cringe.  I hate thinking about it.  All I want to do is stay home with Addi bug.  Unfortunately I have to go back.  Trust me if my husband told me I could stay home I would in a heartbeat!  Maybe one day it will become a reality.  Who knows what the future holds!  I go back on the 24th and I only have 1 1/2 weeks left with her.

We spent today just running around town getting some things done before I go back.  We first went to get my eyebrows waxed - exciting, I know!  :)  Carol, who does my eyebrows, loved Addi.  Next, we went to my Mamaw and Papa's house.  Mamaw kept me from the time I was 6 weeks old until I was about 12.  I love them like my own grandparents!  She treated me just like one of her grandchildren.  I loved staying there because her grandchildren were always there for me to play with and she had a swimming pool! I spent pretty much every day of every summer in the pool.  I hope Addi loves the water as much as I did.  I loved getting to introduce Addi to them and just spending time with them.  It made me realize that I need to go over there more often.

Our last visit was to the daycare.  I had some questions and some paper work that I needed to fill out.  I spent some time looking for the right daycare and I'm very pleased with the decision we made.  I started looking right when I found out I was pregnant b/c some places had 2 year waiting lists! It's crazy!  I'm going to be a basketcase the first week I have to drop her off.  Tears will be flowing I'm sure.

Tomorrow begins Addi's first day of physical therapy.  They are coming to the house in the morning and I'm curious to see what all they are going to do.

On another note, our anniversary is Monday! I can't believe it's been two years already.  Time has flown by.  We ended up buying each other Sony Reader's as our gifts - real romantic, I know! I knew if we bought one and tried to share it then we would probably fight over it, so we just went ahead and bought two! Brad loves to read and I'm hoping this will encourage me to read also.  We ordered them off the internet and I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival!

Mother's Day Weekend

We had such a good weekend with family and friends! Friday night me, Brad and Addi met Janna and Jared at Nikki's - YUM! I really miss seeing them and I want them to move back to Birmingham ASAP! Addi was such a good girl at dinner.

Saturday morning Brad and I drove up to Dogtown and bought some furniture. You remember the furniture that I picked out in an earlier post?? Well I had the intentions of going straight there and purchasing that suite. Of course I let Brad change my mind. We bought something that I normally would not have picked out, but it's definitely more comfortable. We were even able to buy the whole suite and Brad is putting the loveseat in his "man cave". It has a console in the middle where you can put drinks, etc. This is perfect for him! The chair and sofa will go in our living room. We had to order the sofa so that means we have to drive back up there in about a month to pick it up. Maybe by then we will be able to purchase some bedroom furniture too! I hope so! Later that night we went to Kanomi with our CLG. Love me some Japanese food!

Today was my first Mother's Day. It was a VERY special one because Addi was dedicated at church this morning. I just knew I was going to cry, but thankfully I waited until I got home for that! :) After church we went to my parent's house for lunch and then home to nap!

Today I was thinking about the day Addi was born. It was such a scary and exciting day. I had no clue what to expect (or what kind of pain I would be in). Props to all of the woman who choose to have a natural birth. I had an epidural and I was still suffering! After the doctor broke my water, which was the weirdest feeling ever, then the contractions started and I couldn't handle them. My epidural was given around 8:30 am. Around 3:00 pm I began to push and she was born at 5:02 pm. It was the most exhausting experience, but all I wanted to do was hold my precious baby. It was definitely worth the pain and everything I went through. The nurse encouraged us to let them keep Addi in the nursery so we could get some rest. She brought her in to be fed about every 3 hours. The next morning, the nurse noticed Addi was blue and had stopped breathing. She then rushed her to the nursery. Not too long after that she was taken to the NICU where she would spend the first month of her life. One of the best days of my life was followed by one of the worst days of my life.

Right after she was born - 3/4/10

The next day 3/5/10

A lot has changed since 3/5/10. God has performed many miracles in Addi's life. Looking at her now you would never know that she spent the first few days of her life fighting to live. She is such a strong little girl and I'm very thankful God chose me to be her mother.

Happy Mother's Day!

Show Us Your Life - Kid's Names

Kelly's Korner this week is doing Show Us Your Life - Kid's Names.

Addison Kerr Alston

When I was little I would always come up with names that I would want to use one day when I had a child. There was never really a name that I loved. When Bradley and I found out I was pregnant I began seriously thinking about names. At the beginning of the pregnancy we just knew we were having a boy. We were both shocked to find out we were having a girl! We wanted a name that had a special meaning to both of us. The name we picked out for a boy was Jackson Bradley. Jackson is my maiden name and then obviously Bradley is my husbands middle name.

Right after we found out we were having a little girl we chose the name Addison Kerr. Brad's family has a farm in Addison, Alabama. He loves to spend time there and it holds a special place in his heart. This is also the place he proposed to me! We knew Addison had to be our little girl's name! My grandmother's maiden name is Kerr. I wanted to use a family name and that is the one that just stuck in my mind - it is different and I like it :)

Above is a sneak preview of Addi's pictures she had made at 8 weeks old. I LOVE them!!! Lisa Marie Photography took them and I can't wait to see the rest! Also, one of my very best friends, Leah, made the cute hat she has on. :)

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things...

I was inspired by Sandy's blog and decided to make a list of my current favorite things!

1. The Food Network
I love love love to cook! I could also sit and watch other people cook on the food network all day. It not only makes me hungry watching it, but it gives me ideas to use in the kitchen! I love all of the shows, but favorite has to be Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. It makes me want to travel to all of the different places and try the restaurants out!

2. Australian Gold's Forever After lotion

I started going to the tanning bed a few weeks ago. I have very light skin and don't tan easily, but I basically go so I won't burn in the summer! I bought this lotion last week and I love it!! Right after I tan I go home shower and lather this stuff on. It's an anti-aging and slimming lotion that is suppose to extend your tan life. I love the smell - it reminds me of vanilla. It costs about $20 and keeps your skin silky smooth!

3. Pledge Wood Floor CleanerWe have mostly hardwood floors in our house and I love this stuff! It makes it so easy to clean them. You just damp a mop and squirt this stuff on the floor and clean away! How much more simple can you get?

4. Voluspa Candles
My sweet cousin gave me some of these candles for Christmas one year and I've been obsessed ever since. Crisp Champagne is my favorite scent. They are small candles, but they really do the job. One candle can smell up your whole house! This 5 oz candle will run you about $9. The 10 oz is $20. Definitely worth the price!

These are just a few of my current favs. I'm always wanting to try new products - What are some of your favorites?

Coupon Obsessed

Over the past year I have been "couponing" on and off. I would check my usual coupon websites and occasionally cut out the coupons if I had time. But lately I have become obsessed with it! Today I went to Publix and spent $36.00 and saved $44.00. I could have done better, but my printer is broken and I can't print out any coupons. I just have to rely on the newspaper inserts and All You magazine. Publix is my store of choice. I about have a panic attack every time I go in Wal-Mart and Winn Dixie makes me gag (I'm weird, I know). Publix is more expensive when it comes to meat, but I just refuse to go anywhere else. I also love CVS and Walgreens. I know everyone says to stockpile, but I'm running out of room! Brad told me I'm not allowed to go to the grocery store until our pantry is bare. This will take a while!! Tonight I came in with 4 bottles of body wash. My sweet hubby asked me why in the world we needed 4 huge bottles. My response? "Why not when I only paid $1.97 for all 4???" Yeah, I think i'm going to have to chill on the couponing for a little while!

I'm always trying to think of ways that I can save money. A few months back, I got this bright idea to start making our own laundry detergent. I bought everything I needed to make it, but I never came around to it. I probably spend more than I should at times, but for the most part I'm very pleased with our money saving. We only keep a certain amount in checking and anything over that amount I transfer to savings. Not long after we found out I was pregnant we opened up another savings account for Addi. I have a certain amount drafted to her account each payday.

Another way we save money is if we don't have cash to pay for it then we don't need it. I don't even own a credit card. I know I should in order to build credit, etc. Frankly, I don't trust myself with one *and neither does Brad :) *. Both of our cars were bought with cash and the only thing we owe on is our house. Our house is another story. We both hate it and we want to move. It's way to small for all of our "junk" and we aren't in the best area. BUT if one of us loses our job then we don't have to worry about how we are going to make the payment. Even though I hate our house, I'm very thankful for it and the memories we have made here.

This has probably been a very boring post, but I'm always so curious how other people spend their money and how they save. What are your money saving tips??
